Indianapolis Loses Gerard, Out 13-14 Months: The injury that has kept Tyler Gerard out of action since 06/05/2010 will keep him out a while longer. Indianapolis Clowns officials made the announcement this afternoon. They said that Gerard is expected to miss at least 13-14 months with a damaged elbow ligament.

For the season Gerard has logged 2 wins and 6 losses and struck out 32 batters in 59 innings while compiling a 3.97 ERA.


Pawtucket Blanked by Dunham: How good was Dave Dunham today? Just ask the Pawtucket Patriots, who were blanked 6-0. The Patriots could muster just 6 hits against the 27-year-old California hurler. In a fine showing Dunham had 5 strikeouts and walked 0.

Thus far this season, Dunham has worked 91.1 innings with 60 strikeouts en route to a 5-7 record and a 3.74 ERA.


Montoya's Hit Streak Soars to 20 Games: Bobby Montoya collected 1 hit in today's game and extended his hitting streak to 20 games. His club, the Carolina Tobs, beat Dallas 5-4.

After the ballgame, Montoya quipped to a BNN reporter, "Right now, when they throw me the ball, it looks the size of a softball. I'm pretty excited how things are clicking."
Bobby Montoya grounded out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, flied out in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 10th.

Sanchez Receives Updated Diagnosis: The medical report is in: the injury that has kept Dallas center fielder Jerry Sanchez out of action since 06/11/2010 will sideline him for another 7-8 months. The 29-year-old Sanchez, who has a torn posterior cruciate ligament, said he heals quickly. "I'll be back soon," he said, "and I'll pick up where I left off. "

Thus far this season Sanchez has hit .266 with 6 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 32 times.

Actually impressive he went this deep into his career without this kind of implosion. Either way, great career considering the "fragile" tag at a very early age.

He's now "wrecked" and I'm sure the elbow damage is probably going to kill his already low "stuff" rating. With low stamina and low stuff, he might be able to find a job next year as a long-reliever but his career might be over. Probably a Hall of Very Good candidate.

Schiefelbein Magnificent in Windy City Win: Jimmy Schiefelbein of the Denver BC dominated the day, pitching shutout ball against the Playboys and holding them to 4 hits. He fanned 5 and walked 0 in spinning his 5-0 win.

"I can't take all the credit for this one," Schiefelbein said. "I had some great defense behind me."

Clowns Chill Montoya's Hot Streak: The Indianapolis Clowns pitching did its job today, holding hot-hitting Bobby Montoya hitless in 2 at-bats during a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Tobs at Tobs Stadium. This disappointing performance ended his 23-game hitting streak.

"I'm a little down right now," Montoya said after the game. "I couldn't get anything going when the team needed me, and I hated to see the streak end, too."

Montoya is hitting .297 so far this season with 37 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 73 hits including 13 home runs, 17 walks and .342 OBP.


Kodiaks Whitewashed by Thomas: At Kennywood Park today Pittsburgh blitzed the California Kodiaks 7-0 on a route-going gem by Jamie Thomas. He blanked them on a 3-hitter and had 3 strikeouts in the contest.

So far this year Thomas has made 15 starts, tossed 102.2 innings, struck out 94 batters and walked 19. His record is 8-3 with a 2.81 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .216 batting average.

Injured ten Cate Out 11 Months: Mannus ten Cate could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Pittsburgh reliever told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 11 months because of a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament. He hasn't played since 06/22/2010 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there."


Injury Takes Toll, Henry Rodriques Out: Watching Henry Rodriques getting helped off the field today at The Big Top, fans of the Denver BC feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the right fielder will miss 2 weeks with an elbow contusion. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Rodriques suffered the injury being hit by a pitch in the game against the Clowns.

Thus far this season Rodriques has hit .289 with 17 home runs, 60 RBIs and scored 42 times.


Star SS Signs Pact with Kodiaks: California fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Dani Trujillo won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 1-year extension at a pay rate of $9,500,000 per annum.

Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, California officials had to keep Trujillo from jumping ship.

5 Hits for Mohawks Sheppard: "It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." 7-Hit Blitz by Cavazos: Tony Cavazos really sizzled at the plate today. The Pawtucket center fielder blistered the Indianapolis Clowns for 7 hits in 8 at-bats in his club's 11-10 defeat.

"Cavazos was too tough to get out today," the Clowns skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too. But hey, I don't mind if every game somebody gets 7 hits off us, as long as we win. That's the bottom line. We ain't playin' for stats."

Clemons Gets Number 2000: It was a great day for Artie Clemons of the New York Knights -- but not a perfect day. He became the latest player to reach the 2000-hit mark, but his team lost the game. The 35-year-old center fielder got his hit in New York's 6-5 loss to Los Angeles.

"It was a very special game for me, but not a good one for the team," said Clemons after the game. Commenting on his achievement to reporters, he told them, "2000 hits are a lot. It puts you in a very select group. You have to hit well over a lot of seasons to do this. It's a good feeling to have your name in the record books with the other guys who have reached this level."

He finished the day with 3 hits in 4 at-bats.

His all-time numbers show Clemons is carrying a .269 career batting average with 55 home runs and 655 RBIs.


Muckdogs Lose Hardwick for 6 Weeks: Batavia catcher Bill Hardwick left today's game with a sports hernia. The injury looked like it occurred running the bases in the game against Death Valley. One fan said, "As soon as it happened, you could tell something was wrong." The injury will likely leave the Muckdogs without Hardwick for about 6 weeks.

Jimenez Locks Down Playboys Victory, Gets 300th Save: As the last out was recorded, a huge smile spread over the face of Windy City Playboys famed reliever Reynaldo Jimenez. The outstanding bullpen performer, well-known for his intimidating scowl while on the hill, had good reason to smile. He had just secured his 300th-career save in the Playboys 6-4 win over the Los Alamos Amigos. "I take this game seriously, but how can you not smile when you accomplish something like this?" he said. Jimenez's teammates swarmed the mound after the milestone victory, as if the club had just won a pennant or league championship. In the save, Jimenez allowed no runs in 0.2 innings and gave up no hits.

In his career Jimenez has picked up 300 saves, 48 victories and 25 defeats. In 600 appearances and 647.1 innings, he has fanned 877 and walked 155 with a 1.86 ERA.
