  • IL 1/3 of the season. Races taking shape

Usually in June you can start getting a feel who's going to be there at the end. Here's Funclowns cyrstal ball:

    IL Stout:

As expected Death Valley on top being chased by Washington. Washington putting up the good fight and will harass Death Valley to the bitter end. Sadly I think pure talents wins out. Seattle and Morgantown least aren't being pushed around. I hope least one team can stick around by September.

    IL Bock:

This season Windy City didn't allow the other 3 to take an early lead. So far this race feels boring. Barring a major injury I don't see any of the three challenging the 7 year reign of Windy City. Really shocked at Carolina's play and the obsession of the 6 man rotation when clearly one doesn't belong. Be interesting if Spot can mesh his veteran team in time for a late season run. Davenport is attempted the horn grown route since 2005.

    IL Porter:

Is Batavia an every other year team? Sure feels that way. Philly may finally be making a move, but it's probably more a Wildcard push. I don't expect Baltimore to sit here and take it. Cali looking good the another top 5 pick.

    Wildcard:

Unclear which is a good sign for an exciting race. After the big three no one seems dominant. Look for one team from each division to make a play in September, but could be as much as 5 teams. Going to reach and call Philly on this, but that's just dice rolling.

I use it on 7 game weeks during the early part of the season.

All perspective. Maybe that sixth guy got rocked but maybe it saved your ace from having his arm fall off. Can't know.

Jistic preaches to me 5 man rotation at all times. We fight about it, but you can't argue the results of his pitching staff. Also nice to have 4 Aces at your disposal.

7-day lineups and pitchers are selected based on parks and opponents in Baltimore. I don't think I've ever had 5 pitchers that I felt comfortable trotting out on a daily basis.

              4 but never 5.

When we have pitchers (not right now) we usually deploy a 5+. Meaning 4 hopefully good starters then two that start based on matchups. I will say never had the rotation Jistic has , but only run a true 6 when i see a long run without a day off. This was partially done cuz Gerald & Burns didn't have the greatest stamina.

It really depends what hand your dealt.

I love the 6 man rotation, but we are going with 5 right now. I never used to let my pitchers go deep into games and always relied on a strong 4 man bullpen with a L/R closer/setup combo then one other dominant MR in case of injury and a L only specialist.

This year we have guys going 8-9 innings so my pen has seen its lowest usage rate in years.

I liked giving guys rest and 6 man lets you better adjust to matchups.

What match ups do you look for? I have a 6 man and just go strict order most of the time. How do you judge park stats to help you?

I have a feeling being in first and running the league won't get me many answers.

Pitcher handiness vs. park factors is one way to look at it.
