Ugh and you're right there in the Lager. Goes back-and-forth.

I wonder where your team would be with Evers.

Speaking of him, every time I see him pitch for you (before the injury), I always got jealous because it was between him and Ron Malone in the draft and I went Malone and always felt I screwed that one up.

Red-Hot Burkett Scorches Knights: During a player's career, there are days that stand out and this day was definitely special! Seth Burkett went 5 for 5 against the New York Knights at Tobs Stadium and the Tobs picked up a 10-4 victory.

"What a day!" he said. "We win and I get 5 hits! Couldn't be better!"

"He was patient up there today," the Carolina skipper told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly agressive. Burkett has a tendency to go after some bad balls sometimes."

Seth Burkett singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Dusty Verhaeghe in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th.

BC Pang Out of Action: The Denver BC were dealt a severe blow when Ling-lai Pang was hurt running the bases recently in a game against the California Kodiaks. After the game, the team trainer reported Pang might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 32-year-old third baseman out for the rest of the season with a hamstring strain. They indicated it would take Pang at least 6-7 weeks to heal.

Pang is hitting .294 in 2009 with 73 RBIs and 13 home runs.

Philadelphia's Mobley Asked for Trade. Fact or Fiction?: In the latest churning of the rumor mill, reports indicate that 33-year-old reliever B.J. Mobley of the Philadelphia Freedom could be on the trading block. While the player refused to comment, the team did not outright deny the claims. "If it'll help this team, we'll make a move," said one team official.

Syracuse Defeats California 6-2, Nakashima Nabs 500th Save: Baseball is a numbers game, which means that every milestone reached is special for a player. Today relief specialist Koichi Nakashima of the Syracuse Slammers joined the coveted 500-save club, proving that he is one of the best in the business. Congrats to Nakashima. I think he's underrated. Just seems forgotten as a closer. Actually, I think closers are mostly not talked about in these parts anymore. Not sure why. But this guy has been dominant every year.

I was going to add him to your underrated thread but I thought it would be pointless. But now I might. He's the best. Him and Ballos have meant more to my playoff run than anyone.

Arce on Top of His Game: The Dallas manager told reporters after the game, "When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy. The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."

He was talking about David Arce, who had just hurled a fine 2-hit shutout over the Denver BC. He had 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in the Dallas 3-0 victory.

"An outstanding job," the Denver manager said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."

So far this year Arce has a 12-5 record with a 2.79 ERA.

Hits Galore: Tammany Drills 6 Hits: It was a parade of hits for Tyler Tammany of the Los Angeles Dinos... one right after another... a total of 6 for the day. He ravaged the Toronto Canadians for 6 hits in his 6 at-bats and propelled the Dinos to a 17-3 victory.

"Tammany was really good and we were really bad," groaned the Canadians manager. "Next time he's that hot, we'll just walk him."

Tyler Tammany singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

Looking at his season stats, Tammany has compiled a .311 batting average and a .343 on-base percentage, while hitting 3 home runs and driving in 35 runs.

Perez Gets Injury Report: Marco Perez could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Baltimore closer told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 5-6 months because of a torn labrum. He hasn't played since 09/04/2009 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there."

Perez has worked 60.2 innings in 61 relief appearances thus far this season and picked up 11 saves. He has dished out 80 strikeouts and walked 26 with a 5-4 mark and a 2.52 ERA.

Denver Hold Off Slammers, Perez Picks Up 300th Save: BC closer Tony Perez has faced many pressure situations, but rarely does the pressure affect him. Today was no different in a 4-1 Denver victory as the 36-year-old pitcher registered a historic milestone -- his 300th save of his career. "We feel that a lead is in good hands whenever Tony gets the ball," one of his teammates said after the game. Perez reached the 300-save plateau by holding the Syracuse Slammers to no runs and 1 hit in 1 innings of work.

In 712 appearances and 774.1 innings, Perez has saved 300 games. His career record is 41-61 with 853 strikeouts. His ERA stands at 3.48.

                    Uribe Out 8-9 Months:
Since 09/05/2009, when he suffered a stretched elbow ligament, Edwin Uribe has been waiting. Waiting to hear how badly he injured himself during that day's game. Today word came down from the doctors that the Baltimore starting pitcher would miss 8-9 months. "It could have been better", said Uribe, "but it also could have been much worse."

In 27 starts this season, Uribe has recorded 11 wins and absorbed 9 losses. He has pitched 157.2 innings, allowed 170 hits, struck out 139 and has a 4.00 ERA.

Hope to get him back there. Perez is the Denver all-time leader in saves and appearances.

Meanwhile, Leo Garcia is 36. Has been playing since 1997 when he was 24. Has never played for a playoff team. And he has played with Batavia, Philadelphia and Dallas. But always in the wrong years.

Players Suspended in Dukes-Dinos Donnybrook: The league commissioner announced that two players had been suspended for inappropriate conduct. He told BNN, "What I'm trying to do with these penalties is say, we can't stop you from doing these things, but if you do them, you have to understand you will pay the consequences."

Baseball can be an intense game and on-field confrontations happen. However, the league disciplinary policy is to punish, sometimes severely, those who decide to settle things with their fists.

When Travis Ashley of the New Orleans Dukes and David Palomares of the Los Angeles Dinos got into a scuffle during a game, both players knew that a suspension would be forthcoming.

Sure enough, today it was announced that both players will each receive a 6-game suspension for their actions in a recent game at Henry Byrd Field.

Batting .244 to date, Ashley has 2 home runs and 34 RBIs.

Palomares has gone 13-9 this season with an ERA of 3.19 and 129 strikeouts in 183.1 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .262 against him.

Veteran Re-Signs with Bulldogs: Marco Perez might be greedy, but there's no disputing his talent. The hotshot closer will pocket $15,940,000 after re-signing with the Bulldogs earlier today, and will hang around another 3 years.

Some more financially prudent fans worried that the signing would burden the club down the road and might prevent it from being competitive, though many others were simply thankful that Perez didn't bolt.

This season Perez has worked 60.2 innings in 61 relief appearances and picked up 11 saves. He has dished out 80 strikeouts and walked 26 with a 5-4 mark and a 2.52 ERA.

del Rio Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle: Today at Babylon Mike del Rio collected a cycle and led California to a 12-4 triumph over the Los Alamos Amigos. The Kodiaks catcher sparked his club with 4 hits in 6 tries with 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in.

Mike del Rio grounded out in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Evandro Dionsio in the 4th, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and flied out in the 9th.

del Rio has a .276 average and a .321 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 128 hits, 8 home runs and driven in 49 runs.

$$$ Keeps Superstar Jimenez in Windy City: Windy City fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Reynaldo Jimenez won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 2-year extension at a pay rate of $12,240,000 per annum.

Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, Windy City officials had to keep Jimenez from jumping ship.

This year Windy City reliever Jimenez has made 65 relief appearances and has 44 saves. His record is 5-2 with 104 strikeouts in 72.2 innings and a 0.74 ERA.
