BC Trade Tulun to Bulldogs for Pang: It is being reported in Baltimore that the Bulldogs and the Denver BC have agreed on a trade. According to anonymous sources 32-year-old third baseman Ling-lai Pang will be dealt to the BC in return for 38-year-old closer Abayghur Tulun and a 2nd round draft pick.

In 1041 career appearances, Tulun has a 72-46 record, saved 169 games, fanned 1526 batters in 1360.2 innings and put up a 2.74 ERA.

For the year Pang is hitting .308 with 4 home runs. His stats include 26 runs batted in and 20 runs scored.

Knights Santoyo Injured in Off-Field Incident: The New York manager has confirmed that third baseman David Santoyo will be sidelined for approximately 5 days. He said that Santoyo has an undisclosed injury, but he would not comment on reports that Santoyo sustained the injury when he decided to party excessively.

For the year Santoyo has hit .224 with 5 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 28 runs.

Stroop Belts Bunch of Base Hits: "It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Jimmy Stroop after his 5-hit performance against the Clowns. "No offense meant to Indianapolis, but it was like I was back in little league again. I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was The Big Top."

The Davenport center fielder had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 6 at-bats and pacing his club to a 13-3 victory.

His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Jimmy worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."

"That's what I'm trying to do," Stroop said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Jimmy Stroop doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Shannon Wheatley in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

So far this season Stroop is hitting .244 with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He has 20 hits in 82 at-bats and a .319 OBP.

Mejia at His Best, Whips Reign: Alex Mejia of the New York Knights shut out the Seattle Reign 6-0, holding them to 5 hits with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Mejia said, "I could throw any pitch on any count."

The Seattle skipper called his game a jewel, saying, "The way he was pitching, it would have been tough for anyone to beat him."

Injured Hebert Out 12-13 Months: The latest news from the Morgantown Mohawks clubhouse is this: reliever Jeremiah Hebert is expected to be out of action for another 12-13 months. This season Hebert has logged 2 saves. He has thrown 34 innings, dished out 17 strikeouts and walked 17 while putting up a 3-1 mark and a 2.65 ERA.

Flores Torches Dukes for 5 Hits:
What a day for Diego Flores of the Washington Bats! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen every day! He ripped New Orleans pitching apart at The Capitol and sparked the Bats to a 12-7 victory. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing his special day 5 for 5.

"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Flores told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."

Diego Flores hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.

He's been a huge addition to the team. He's awful behind the plate but platooning him at 1B/C/DH has proven effective.

Canadians Send Quinn to Denver: The rumor has been out there for a while now and today it was made official. The Toronto Canadians have sent 32-year-old right fielder Tyler Quinn to the Denver BC for 28-year-old first baseman Tom Cole, 33-year-old reliever Derek Vleugel, 29-year-old left fielder Joey Leamy and a 2nd round draft pick.

This season Quinn is batting .264 with 16 home runs. He has scored 53 runs and driven in 54.

In 2009 Cole has hit at a .308 clip with 60 hits, no home runs, 21 RBIs and has scored 15 times.

Lippert Whitewashes New Orleans: Dave Lippert of the Cleveland Buckeyes shut out the New Orleans Dukes 12-0, stopped them on 2 hits and had 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.

After the game his manager said, "He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw. When Dave stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key."

In 16 starts this season Lippert has rung up a 7-3 record and a 2.39 ERA.

Hits Galore: Nelson Drills 5 Hits: D.J. Nelson was unstoppable, but his club, the Bats, was not unbeatable. Despite his hitting heroics they lost to the Los Alamos Amigos 8-7. He battered them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. His only consolation will be a boost in his batting average and a brief mention in the record book.

Nelson just shook his head after the game, saying to the BNN reporters, "It's the team with the most runs that wins... not the most hits."

D.J. Nelson grounded out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit a two-run double in the 9th and doubled in the 11th.

So far this season Nelson has put up a .333 batting average with 87 hits, 8 home runs and 42 RBIs.

Claveau Struts Stuff in Los Angeles Win: Maxence Claveau of the Toronto Canadians shut out the Los Angeles Dinos 4-0, stopped them on 3 hits and had 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.

After the game his manager said, "He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw. When Maxence stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key."

This season Claveau has compiled a 5-6 record with a 4.36 ERA.

Injured Nelson Out 9 Months: D.J. Nelson could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Washington right fielder told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 9 months because of a torn posterior cruciate ligament. He hasn't played since 06/28/2009 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there."

Currently Nelson is batting .333 with 8 home runs and 42 RBIs.

Veteran SP Thomas Stays in Pittsburgh: Happy times in Pittsburgh as the Millers and star starting pitcher Jamie Thomas put the finishing touches on a $77,600,000 contract extension that will keep the 30-year-old in town 5 years longer.

The signing is great news for Pittsburgh because players of this caliber are hard to come by.

This season Thomas has a 10-3 mark in 16 starts with a 2.96 ERA. He has given up 92 hits in 109.1 innings, struck out 105 and issued 14 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .227 batting average against him.

Veteran Re-Signs with BC: The Denver BC have finished a deal with All Star-caliber first baseman Tyler Quinn that will extend his stay in Denver at least 3 years and will pay out $49,500,000.

Quinn currently has a .254 batting average with 71 hits, 18 homers, 56 RBIs, 56 runs scored and a .361 OBP.

Party's Over: Herrera Retires in Washington: "I've made up my mind to leave baseball," Danny Herrera said. "It's time to move into the second phase of my life."
The Washington right fielder announced his retirement today at a press conference, saying it would be his last season.

His career numbers show Herrera has batted .274 and collected 2156 hits, 13 home runs and 717 RBIs.

                  Some major announcements this sim.

Thomas deal is a nice one. Quinn staying in Denver. Might have been the biggest BLB FA target if he didn't get re-signed.

Washington saying good bye to a veteran, while also contemplating the implications of losing a star player.

And for those that manage to splits, five guys you rest your players against on the road because it's just not worth it.

Fujii Hears from Medical Staff: Kokoro Fujii could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Baltimore left fielder told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 7 weeks because of a strained groin muscle. He hasn't played since 07/06/2009 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there."

This season Fujii is batting .236 with 12 home runs. He has scored 35 runs and driven in 30.

Update: Martinez Out 7-8 Months: Team officials for the Denver BC have revealed that the recent injury to Leo Martinez will keep him out for 7-8 months. The 26-year-old third baseman suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament on 07/05/2009. He has not played since.

Looking at his present stats, Martinez has compiled a .151 batting average in 18 games with a .262 on-base percentage, while hitting no home runs and driving in 4 runs.

Another Setback for Amigos Newman, Forced to Retire:
Tom Newman's bid to resume his baseball career is over. Tests revealed the 29-year-old Los Alamos starting pitcher has suffered a career-ending injury. Newman was undergoing extensive rehabilitation in hopes of repairing a partially torn labrum, but suffered a severe setback while working out and will be forced to retire.

This season Newman has compiled a 2-2 record with a 3.14 ERA.

Reign End Winslow's Streak: Morgantown second baseman Tyler Winslow was held hitless in today's game by the Seattle Reign, but the loss of his 20-game hitting streak was eased by the 6-2 Mohawks victory at Mountaineer Park.

In 80 games this season Winslow has compiled a .305 batting average with 93 hits and 5 home runs. He has also scored 36 times and knocked in 30 runs.

BLB News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced: Nothing is for certain about the 2009 Brewers League Baseball All-Star Game. It might be dominated by top-notch pitching performances. Or it could turn into a home run derby. Who knows? Pitch by pitch, inning by inning, the game could feature a little of both -- six strikeouts in a row by a nasty southpaw -- or a 3-homer day for some superstar slugger -- plus great catches, thrills, chills and spills -- all the great and the unexpected things that can happen in a baseball game.

Kodiaks Chill Wessel's Hot Streak: The Baltimore Bulldogs lost to the California Kodiaks 3-1 today at Phillips Field, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Ron Wessel's 20-game hitting streak.

"We felt if we could slow down Wessel, we would win the game," the Kodiaks manager explained after the game. "They really seemed to feed off of his streak, so we really wanted to make sure they had nothing to feed off of."

This season Wessel has hit at a .322 clip with 39 RBIs, 12 home runs and 58 runs scored. He has played in 92 games.

Nazario and Pascual Brawl, League Suspends Them: In an announcement today, the league informed Javier Nazario of Morgantown and Omar Pascual of Davenport that they both had been suspended 7 games for fighting in a recent game.

The league president told them, "This type of aggressive behavior will not be tolerated in this league."

Nazario wasn't happy with the length of his suspension. He thought he got the worst deal and told the league commissioner, "In any fight, whoever throws the first punch should get a more severe penalty. If I threw the first punch, I'd expect to get the most punishment. Whoever took the blow should get a lesser punishment."

His manager agreed with him and said something needs to be done about it. "Nazario is right. The league needs to look at its policy and make sure the punishment fits the crime."

This year Nazario has batted at a .237 pace with 79 hits, 10 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 40 times.

To date Pascual has no saves with a 1-0 mark and 8.65 ERA. Opposing teams are hitting .296 against him.

                              Congrats to Marshburn.

Seems like he could have accomplished so much more without a couple injuries. Always liked that guy.
