  • 2008 BLB Debut

    Guess Pawtucket starts this off:

Has to be the fastest we've moved a guy thru our system. So fast he hasn't even bothered to trade in his COLLEGE JERSEY!! Drafted just last season our scout wanted him promoted right away so we ignored him for a couple weeks and after 12 games of tearing it up at Lowell batting .321 we decided fine off to AA he goes. There my scout again gave the green arrow and after batting .316 in just a few at bats we said "what the hell" let's he see if a trip to Lynn slows him down. It did for the remainder of 2007 though he did play respectable batting .276 but struggling with slugging and striking out. 2008 became an AAA at age 22 batting .346, slugging a respectable .483 and OPS at a .875 clip. Our scout has his POT for contact as a 7 and rarely can that be learned in the minors. Management in Pawtucket figured he's hit .300 at every level and why not see what he can do at the BLB level?

Worst case, he's not ready and we pull him pack for more instruction since he's 22. With C Todd R (23) and 2B Tony I (23) Pawtucket is beginning to look young.

It's a Frisco Beavers jersey. They're Dallas's AA team. Not sure why Smith would have that jersey.

Lol, he just grabbed any shirt. He goes by the beat of his own drummer.

Not yet but next year. Joey "the Machine" Leger is already in AAA after being drafted 1.1. He hit .333 in a short stint in AA and is batting .333 in AAA. Don't see any reason to bring him up until next season. Interesting fact is that he smashed the career HR record in the CCBL with 97 dingers. 14 more than the previous leader.
My Scout thinks he can win a batting title someday and with the power he displays he maybe the first BLB player to hit 50 someday.
Guys gotta dream and no Clay to stand in his way.

SP Tyler Salzman - 68th overall prospect - Once rated as high as #19 and #22. Drafted 14th overall in 2003. After suffering a shoulder injury in 2004 his potential dropped a bit from a #1 to likely a #3 or #4. He's going to struggle with control but he's armed with a 94 MPH fastball, great movement and a 70% groundball rate. He will debut this week against rival Death Valley.

OF DJ Nelson Never been rated in the Top 100 after being drafted 21st overall in 2006. However, my scout loves him and he has hit well at every level. Switch-hitting gap hitter, Nelson is just 23-years-old but has expected Majors all year. He will get his chance to prove he is worthy of being in an already deep outfield.

C Wayne Nelson Same last name, three picks later at 24th in 2006, this Nelson also has never been top 100. He doesn't project to be quite the hitter as his draft companion but my franchise is desperate for a catcher after Dave D'Orio completely forgot how to hit a baseball. He's a lefty, play solid defense and can run very well for a catcher.

RP Toshihiko Morikawa Acquired from Dallas in the "DC3" trade, Morikawa has been up and down in Triple-A and Double-A but at 24-years-old, I'm going to give him a look. My scout has him 5-5-7 potential, OSA has him 6-6-8. If he can figure out that control, he could be a dominant reliever.

Also...SPs Dario Ramales and Dusty Cohen.

This team could be really young next year in the rotation. As projected now, the oldest would be 26.
