WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- The Brewmaster's Cup Champion Virginia Colonials have announced that they will officially retire the #56 during Danny Nelson Day at Colonial Park at Williamsburg. Nelson, who retired at the end of last season, spent 17 years in the BLB winning four Brewmaster's Cup with the Colonials. Though relegated to mostly backup duty during the Championship years, "Mr Colonial" was a clubhouse leader and vocal spokesman for the franchise.
Nelson, the 1979 IL Refreshing New Brew, retired with a .247 batting average and 259 HRs in Virginia.
The Colonials will welcome the Domestic League's Mississippi Storm on Danny Nelson Day.
