Cristobal Sandoval goes nuts: 9/22 - .409 | .440 | .864 | 1.304; 1 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, and some how goes 2 for 6 in SB attempts. May have to stop giving him the green light at that rate.
So far we are meeting our owner's expectations to play .500 ball. How very exciting.
- OF Brent Nichol was injured while robbing Geoff Scott of a line drive base hit in the 3rd inning of our 2nd game. Enter Rule V pickup Chad Rowe, who proceeds to hit .455 this week along with 2 HR and team-high 7 RBIs and 7 runs scored. Maybe I need to find a little more PT for this guy.
- Early returns are also good for two other Dukes. Jim Coker, in his second tour of duty for our club, posted a .357 OBP from the leadoff spot and hit 2 HR last week. While recent call-up Dewitt Dunlap, handed full-time DH duties this year, came out swinging a hot stick with a .385 average and a few extra base hits to his name. He's not the most selective hitter we've ever had, but that's not what we brought him up to do.
- Meanwhile, 23-year-old Fabian Fresi continues to defy our scouts by pitching well at the big league level, shutting down Pittsburgh to the tune of 1 run on 5 hits through 7.1 IP with 8 strikeouts. While other Dukes prospects with more well known names struggle to acclimate themselves at the BLB level, Fresi keeps chugging along.
Next game: home opener! Curt McMahon (1-0, 3.68 ERA) takes the ball in front of what should be a raucous home crowd.

Dimmick goes 7 full with a no hitter against the Bats. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do this year.
