  • 1993 Hall of Fame Discussion/Voting

Alright, it's time (past time?) for HOF voting once again! Voting will be done with the HOF Utility (same as last year). Voting is open between now and next Wednesday at SIM time. That gives a little over a week to look over the candidates before finalizing your ballot.

We tend to have some anxious owners around here when it comes time for voting, so if anyone has any pimping or discussing they'd like to do before a majority of the league votes, the sooner the better. Since we do have a week to get the vote in I'd ask that everyone wait a day or two for any discussions to arise prior to submitting your vote, but the utility is open now if you just can't restrain yourself.

We have a fairly sizeable class, but at the risk of tampering with the jury I'm not certain it's an overwhelmingly deserving class. We have a couple of holdovers from last year who came within a vote or two of making the hall in their first go 'round and we have a couple of 1st timers who possibly warrant serious consideration.

Take your time, vote wisely. Good luck Gentlemen.

    Batters

OF Steve Bing - Nickname of ‘Speed Limit’; stole 324 bases in his career. Finished in the top 5 of SB leaders in 5 out of 6 years from ’81-’86. Was injury prone his entire career, reaching the 150 game mark only once in his 12 seasons

OF Frank Donegan - 5 time All Star, another oft injured talented OFer

OF Bill Fallon - 4 time All Star, key member of 4 Brewmaster’s Champions in 1979, 1980, 1984, 1985 with the Maine Guides. Ended his career 5 HR short of 300. His “slash” stats suffered from hanging on in the league a bit too long past his prime. Led the league in RBI in 1979 with 142. Hit 30+ HR’s 4 times.

C Jerry Fortin - Decent backstop in a league traditionally full of great ones.

3B Alberto Grandon - 5 time All Star, stud in his early to mid 20’s, absolutely drove off a cliff at the age of 29. Infamous for his involvement in the Baltimore Bailout trade in 1988

OF Nick Latham - Holdover from last season when he received 19 votes

    C Malcolm McSherson - 2 time All-Star, 2nd all-time in RBI by player’s who were primarily catchers

OF Jesus Noboa - JAG, led the league in SB with 44 in 1986 at the age of 33.

    1B Joe Sierra - career .311 | .378 | .451 | .828 batter, 4 time All Star. Earned a ring with the Bats in 1983. 2 time Stout Slugger (’82 and ’83)

C Malachi Stiver - Holdover from last season when he received 17 votes. Interesting case study of people’s views on players that entered the BLB either in their prime or on the backside of their prime years. Entered the BLB at the advanced age of 31 and was a 5 time All Star. Posted a career OPS of .880 despite carrying an AARP card for more than half of his time.

    Pitchers

CL Casimiro Cabezas - 2nd on the all-time Saves list with 487. Won a ring with Carolina in 1981. Saved 100 games over two seasons (49 in 1980, 51 in 1981). One of only 4 pitchers to record at least 50 saves in a single season. 2 time Last Call winner

CL Jon Cleary - 3rd on the all-time Saves list with 424. Member of two Championship winners with the Guides in 1979 and 1980. 4 time Last Call winner

SP Romano Gonzalez - 4 time All Star, won Brewmaster’s in 1983 with Washington.

I know people have different times of the BLB season that they enjoy, but this is one of my absolute favorites. Watching people diss players with obviously deserving HoF numbers and the subsequent arguing about it is one of my favorite pastimes in this league.

I do not see how anyone votes against Latham. The man was awesome for 10 years starting at age 31.

To counter Skerik I'm voting for them all...and Latham twice.

Can someone explain to me why Noboa is eligible? His steal numbers, I'm guessing, but other than that he was terrible.

I think the utility is set at 350 SB which he (barely) met. You probably won't have to worry about seeing him next year.

Edit: It may actually be set at 300. I'm not a big fan of the SB as a stat, but the utility has a spot for it so we came up with a threshold.

12+% of the votes are already in. If anyone's into pimping, you better pimp now or forever hold your bitch slap.

I voted. Two players. Both should get in.

He shouldn't show up on anyone's ballot.

Hang on, I'll submit the list to Clay so he can manually put the guys back on the ballot. The utility did the same thing last season for some unknown reason.

Cleary isn't either...and I remember this from last year.

You are doing the Stout and the BLB a disservice by not voting for Sierra.
