My biggest concern, however, is why it keeps happening.

It is a priority for me that we fix the history issue. If that means delaying a few sims, I accept this.

Does anyone on the OOTP forums have any experience with this problem?

The biggest thing is to get some idea why the game is no longer appending new history and is simply overwriting history files in some instances. Do you want to put in a ticket with OOTP? I'll continue to work on getting the history files put back together again, but figuring out the real issue is the most important thing.

Ok, I haven't checked 100% of the history files I previously touched in advance of today's SIM, but I've taken a 10% sample and each and every one of those files got updated as they should have, meaning new history was written to them and the old history remained intact.

I have a theory that something happened to all the history files when Clay did the restore and some sort of file marker (maybe an End of File marker?) was removed from each file. Then, when the game goes back to the file to write new data it looks for that marker so it knows where to append to. Absent that marker it pastes the new entry over any existing data in the file because it can't see it. The process of manually fixing the 552 files that I fixed placed the EOF marker back in each of those files, which made them work properly. If that's true, we "only" need to fix the files that were messed up by this SIM . . .which is essentially every other file since the OSA ratings were updated and written to every player's history.

It's true. I was so eager to work with Brad, I purposely ruined the sim so there could be a problem I could volunteer to help him fix.

Like I said, Brad: You can't get rid of me that easily.
