  • Weird Managerial Moves

I noticed that my manager did the following in one of the games last sim. In the top of the ninth he -

Pinch hit for the second basemen with the backup catcher
Pinch hit for the cathcer with the backup first baseman
Pinch hit for the pitcher with the backup secondbaseman.

In the bottom of the ninth he -

left the backup catcher in to play second base
left the backup first baseman in to catch
replaced the backup second baseman with the new pitcher (he actually managed to select a pitcher for this)

Have other managers experienced this sort of thing?

I could understand it in the first version of the first edition ot the game but it is hard for me to understand why it has not been fixed by the third version of the second edition.

Yes, I've seen some very weird AI. Last sim. My starting 1B got hurt and my backup 1B is my starting DH. The AI played my backup C (who isn't rated at 1B) at 1B the entire week instead of playing the backup 1B and subbing in the backup DH.

It seems like there's an issue with the AI using backup catchers when they shouldn't.

You can't sub your DH into the field for a position according to MLB rules. If you do you give-up your DH spot and I believe it's an automatic out when that spot comes up in the order. The only thing you can do with your DH is pinch hit for him.
Yeah I know, but he played my backup C at 1B all week. :D

Damn, you caught it before I deleted it! I posted that, re-read your post and saw you said all week.

To add to this, it seems like the first person my manager goes to for a sub off the bench is my back-up C.

Andrew, your problem isn't related only to catchers or DH. When you have someone slated as a starter, the AI isn't smart enough to use them as a backup if the situation would warrant it. So that was your issue.

I'm very curious about Riverman's issue, though. That does seem pretty fishy and might be worth watching out for more instances like this to determine what exactly the problem is.
