  • 1992 PIMP Threads and Discussion

I opened two new (stickied) threads - one for each league. There has been a lot of Awards talk over the last two SIMs, so I wanted to "suggest" that people start getting their PIMP on.

We tend to get a lot of Owners who like to vote within the first 24 hours of the Awards Voting being open... leaving some Owners no chance to really sell their players (if they so chose).

My thought (and we'll see how it goes).... Owners throw their PIMP post into the correct thread when they have time... update over the last two Reg Season SIMS if you choose to... but we leave the debate and discussion here as to not muddy those threads.

I'm hoping that provides a nice resource that Owners can use before they cast their ballot.

    Thanks

Apparently it took all of two posts to blow my idea of keeping those other threads clean of discussion... so use whatever you want.

I think it's a good idea. Just edit the two threads and only keep posts with explanations why they should be voted for by their team owner.

We can discuss in this thread.

Thanks for continuing to embarrass us DL. If you need an example of an uncluttered thread with brief information please refer to the IL one.

Yeah, it bums me out that the DL is the cluttered one. Selfishly... I need the DL one more than the IL. I follow the IL religiously. The DL is like a crappy step-child.

BTW - I may be able to do a couple similar banners to the ones I put in the IL thread if anyone wants one. First come, first served.... no promises.

I was planning on obeying the honor of the separate threads before the superior DL thread got out of hand, but I do think it makes discussion a little more complicated and less organic. But just my two cents.

Love the banners Clay, they are nicely done. I think the Colonials have the Last Call and Pale Ale on lockdown for the IL.

I wish we had somebody to pimp out but we don't even have anybody that belongs in any type of consideration....

Now, if there was a comeback player of the year then that might be a different story. Was there ever thought of including that type of award?

Jerome Middlebrooks would have been pimped out for it. Signed to a 1 year deal worth 460K, the 39 year old has showed that he still has some gas left in the tank. He's been a reliable lefty out of the pen and has even made three starts for us. This is the first season where he's been in a relief position and it's proven to be a nice fit. He's statistically having one of the best seasons of his career, if not the best.

I'm curious to see how he responds to his new success. Will he retire at the end of the year? or maybe this season will have inspired him to continue throwing until that gas tank is truly empty?

We talked about a "COMEBACK PLAYER" but always ended up deciding that it was so subjective it would be nearly impossible to get a fair class to choose from. So, we kind of left it up to each Owner to do it as like a "Team Award".

Thanks. I agree. I honestly think the Stout Slugger is Chavez' to lose right now. I think there is a great case to be made for 4 guys (Chavez, Kubota, Murdock and Castor)... however... IMO (my opinion... MY opinion...) Chavez has shown the best combination of the three offensive tools (AVG, POWER, SPEED) this season. He really had a Mel Woodbury-esque season.... plus about double the steals.

I know what you mean. Middlebrooks wasn't exactly a stud in his previous life as a starting pitcher.

It's a nice story and might be the reason for me to introduce team awards.

Yeah, I think Chavez might take the Stout too. But it's a lot closer race than the Pale Ale and Last Call.

Speaking of Last Call, record watch is in full effect....

I think Castor/Kubota will cancel each other out in voting. The fact that Woodbury isn't in the conversation increases Chavez's chances.

I think Castor is the kind of guy who wins in the real world. Young, fresh face with great power numbers.

Kubota is more of the poster child for the Sabermetrics crowd.

I don't think they cancel eachother out because they are compleley different candidates...though both great.

Murdock is like a Harry Keppel-light. He does everything really well (except run) but not necessarily anything at an outrageously high level. Great player.

I think Chavez is the pick because he's the most complete. 200+ hits, 100+ runs, 30+ HR, 100+ RBI, 50+ SB, BB > K. Just my opinion.

I'm sure the IL will be well pimped by the time the Polls open.

Oh, yea, I agree. But, no offense, you know a lot of that will be started because of you, right?
