    Who's crowning Pat Gates?

Batavia has their own New Brew candidate...CF Joe Rojas.

    Against other rookies...

    #1 - AVG
    #1 - OBP
    #2 - SLG
    #1 - VORP
    #1 - Hits
    #1 - Doubles
    #4 - HR
    #2 - RBI
    #1 - Runs Scored
    #3 - BB
    #2 - EBH
    #2 - Total Bases

Not to mention he played CF, the anchor of the defense, all year long. In that time he had 1 error with a ZR of +15.6!

Against all CF's in the entire BLB

    #2 - Fielding percentage
    #5 - Range Factor
    #5 - ZR
    #6 - Def efficiency

Not saying Jenkins is the New Brew, but Coates isn't.
At 26 and at a fully realized potential Jenkins is probably 85% of the pitcher Coates is at just 23 and still developing. Jenkins has better stats only because he plays for the best team in the league.

Winning is just as contagious as losing.

Jenkins is a very good pitcher but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's better than Coates. Let us revisit when Jenkins logs 200 innings in the BLB.

Someone is sharing bowls with Linty today.

I did not say Jenkins was a better player than Coates... Jenkins has had a better season than Coates.

Do we vote based on who the best player should be in a vacuum? Of course the team they're on will make difference. If it didn't we'd just give the awards to the Top Player List each season.

I didn't forget about Rojas. Just giving other options than the two most talked about names.

Since I don't see the word "stats" anywhere, I can only go by what I see.

Jenkins has only pitched in 100 innings in the BLB. You can't really compare that to a pitcher that logged almost twice as many. I'm sure you can find a 100 inning stretch where Coates put up similar numbers.

BTW, I am really not sure how believing Coates is a better pitcher than Jenkins has anything to do with the Virginia owner.

We swept the team to beat in the DL, so by default I guess we won the DL. Parade's on Friday.

What the hell are you talking about? What did I say about the Virginia Owner? You said "Jenkins has better stats only because he plays for the best team in the league. Winning is just as contagious as losing."

That's my point about not being able to view things based on strictly ability with a penalty for what team they play for.

Go for it. Find a 17-game or 100 inning stretch where he was better.

Jenkins story is almost unbelievable. The kid is a 5-5-5 by my scout coming out of college...proceeds to put up 4.00-5.00 ERA's in the minors, then get's the call up and goes 12-2 with a 2.48 ERA and now my scout thinks he's the second coming.

Not to mention he was the 35th pick, and one of the only more successful picks from that draft...oh Virginia's Jerry Daly. Is OOTP programmed to reward winners? Would Batavia 1st round bust Chet Stephens become Pancho H. on Virginia...probably.

No wonder everyone hates Virginia in this league.

He was never lower than #18 on the Top Prospects list and as high as #7, so I'm not sure just because your Scout didn't love him that Jenkins story is shocking. The tools were there the whole time.

I think what you have to be careful of (especially with my prospects) is looking at minor league numbers too much because my Minor League teams are awful. I honestly don't know that I've had more than 5 winnings seasons (all levels combined) in my 14 years. My minor league teams are really, really bad.

That being said... as I've said before... I do think a winning team/organization does have an impact on how players develop at the highest level. I think getting a guy who isn't putting it together on a bad AAA team up to a dynamo BLB team can/will allow them to show their actual potential.

Obviously, I'm very lucky to hit on prospects... but... I also miss on quite a few high picks as well. Sure, in 1988 I appear to have hit on Daly and Jenkins in the 1st and 2nd Round.... but the very next season I missed on two 1st Rounders in Robbins and Bolam.

I see players all the time that bat like shit in the minors but the light turns on at the big league level. Remember too no matter where they are on the 25 man roster if they're up there they develop, you don't have to worry about playing time.

Every hitter I promoted this year batted better in the bigs than any other level. That's why it's a bad idea IMO to let a guy "stew" too long and wait for him to be a minor league all start before bringing him up.

Agreed on that. To look at the reverse, how many times have you signed an older player that struggled is the show but is lights out in AAA?

Has happened to me quite a few times. I have a minor league pitcher that's the Denver minor league all-time wins leader and he sucked in the show. It's not always easy to translate the stats.

Gotta focus on development and even then we already know that not every 5-5-5 guy pitches like the next. Chet Poole is a 3-4-6 via OSA. Three full seasons now and you wouldn't believe it.

We will be going down to the wire with Los Alamos. It's too bad we couldn't even salvage a win against Batavia, seems like we never have a sim where we play over .500.

I don't even look at OSA ratings. Hell, I barely even look at my own scout's ratings (and yes, I have a good scout). I've seen too many guys my scout loves who can't play, and I've seen too many guys that have merely "ok" ratings who just play great baseball. Sure I use the ratings as a general guide when looking for players to draft or acquire, but if a guy hasn't translated those ratings to on-field performance, then who cares what his ratings are.

Note that this would all change if there were lots of "late bloomers" in OOTP who grow into their ratings. But if a guy has already maxed out his potential ratings and he still isn't performing on the field - guess what - he's not a good player and he's probably never going to be one.

It's funny to watch teams in free agency drool all over these 5-5-5 pitchers who turn in ERAs over 5 every season. It's not like these guys are suddenly going to become good and start playing up to their ratings. Sure you can mask their shortcomings with a good defense or a big park, but these guys are what they are, as shown by their on-field performance.

3-3 sim for the Tobs, we're just treading water. Still 4 back and with 10 games to go against division rivals I guess it's still possible for us to sneak into the playoffs.

This sim we really hit well, going .300 as a team with .879 OPS. Unfortunately we couldn't pitch well enough to turn that into a big week. Pat Gates has struggled since being announced as the New Brew Winner, but other callups have picked up the slack. In particular, Pete Foster is making his case to be our starting CF, hitting .446 over the past two weeks while playing a great defensive center field. New Joe Reyes hit .364 in his first week as a Tob.

I think we starting to put together the pieces for a decent lineup, hopefully in a few seasons we'll be able to compete.
