It's really beside the point here, since we're talking about Player Contracts and dead money. I was just using it as an example of vanishing money. The Great One!

The vanishing money aspect appears to come into play when either A) a team has too much cash left over at the end of the year and loses anything over the set limit B) a team is too far in debt at the end of the year and the debt gets lowered to a set limit. My "guess" is if you fast foward to the end of this season and Los Alamos is $20mil in debt, that figure will get adjusted to $10mil in debt to start the next season.PAWTUCKET PATRIOTS

And I don't want to make it seem like I'm talking about this because of the trade I made. I only bring up my trade because that move was made as a result of what I felt was not in the best interest of the league.
That's not to suggest that I think spot is acting against the best interest of the league. He is acting in his team's best interest. He has a player that isn't performing, he'll take the financial hit now. I think that's a perfectly logical step to take in this situation. I don't know how well-versed spot is in the game's financial system so I can't comment on whether he knows what would happen to the cash. I'll just assume that spot knew he'd take a hit this year and somehow would suffer financially as a result.
Even if he didn't, there is no hard rule against such a move so I can't blame anyone for doing it. It's similar to jumping into free agency too early. There's no hard rule against it, so can we fault anyone for seeing an opportunity to jump ahead? I never would. We've always found a solution that satisfies the league.
As for staff expenses, I think Clay might need to explain what he means a bit better because I'm not following. I look at my financials and my staff expenses are definitely a hit against my balance. We have a budget and that budget is staff expenses + player salaries + scouting. All of that goes into the Financial Reports Team Payroll which is separate from the Payroll we see from the Team Screen (which is only player expenses).
If I fire a coach, I always thought that salary went as a hit in my expenses? But maybe that's what Clay is saying does not happen? If so, I never realized that.Denver Bulls

When we were using the profitability model outside of the game, Staff Expenses were not factored into the equation.
Yes, they are in the equation now... however... since we turned on the Owners (OOTP 11), that profitability model is moot. The Great One!

Saw your post on Grady and I didn't want to believe it until I saw it for myself. That's just unfair. He was having such a great year. Kid's gotta bright future.
I'm glad teams are enjoying the quality arms sent their way from Denver's illustrious minor league system. You all can thank me later, umdjisticbrad.
Actually, thank me now, damn it.Denver Bulls

Open Letter of Apology
To those GM's who were kind enough to talk trade with me the last couple of weeks:
My apologies for not being able to see it through. I have been on the road practically non-stop for more than a month now; and I just didn't have the time to research a deal. I'm probably going to miss out on trade waivers too as I will be in the desert this coming Thursday through the following Monday.
Mr. Commish: I may miss the next couple of exports.
Fortunately, my team seems to like it when I'm not around!

Baltimore Bulldogs (65-40, 1st in Porter)
2-1 AT Batavia
2-2 VS Philadelphia
Real life has been exercising its an uncanny ability to get in the way with my full-time job as a BLB GM, so recaps have been sparse lately. In the BLB, we've been hit with the injury bug this past week, with big injuries to key players. Instead of looking forward to preparing our players for potential playoff match-ups, now we are going to just to try and hold on for dear life to a 9-game lead in the Porter.
The Week in Review
- Limping Towards the Finish: It was probably inevitable, especially since we traded injured pitcher, Akira Abe. Rising star pitcher, Lonnie Grady just finished a monster July going 4-0 in 4 starts giving up just 3 ER in 30 innings for a blistering .90 ERA (no he didn't get Pitcher of the Month). In his first start of April, he was removed in the beginning of the third inning, complaining of sharp pain in his arm. Although doctors indicated that there was no visible muscular damage or bone fractures, he did have massive swelling and would be on the shelf for the rest of the season. Yep. Time to put 10-1 with 2.69 ERA/1.03 WHIP and a 7-0 record ON THE ROAD, on the shelf. Our second major injury this week was to Loren Wallace, who has been injured a bit too often for our tastes. Counting this injury duration, Loren will have been injured for over 2 months of the season. However, its really hard to hate a player who gets injured trying to make great defensive plays.
-Philly Is Such A Classy Town: Newly acquired 3rd baseman, Jim Newlin started against his former teammates this past week. Although he was an unwillingly participant of the business end of BLB, playing for four BLB teams in less than one month, Newlin took it all in stride, remaining upbeat as he dawned a Baltimore uniform. Philadelphia showed how much they loved having him by hitting him with a pitch in his first at bat in the Philadelphia series. I'm sure the was no ill-intent involved. Just a "love tap."
Searching: June Pitcher of the Month, Dani Salcido has lost his pitching and I'm not sure if he's going to get it back this year. After starting the year 8-1, Salcido has given up 22 runs in just 13 innings and going 1-3 in that span. We are really going to need Salcido to step up if we want to make the playoffs but the future isn't bright when you have to rely on a rookie to carry you down the stretch.
The Injured
Lonnie Grady (SP)-Shoulder inflammation (3-4 months)
Loren Wallace (OF)-strained oblique (3 weeks)
Next Up:
I'm not sure what we can do. It is past the trade deadline and our record is too good to pick up anybody of any real value from trade waivers without being blocked by other teams. I think we have what it takes to make the playoffs, but our chance to upset Virginia in a seven-game series has probably just been sent to the bench for 3-4 months.
This upcoming week, we stay at home to face a Morgantown team that, if they had a bullpen, would be a playoff team. In the 2nd leg, we face a Davenport team who is doing everything they can to stave off a 2nd half collapse as they have a 2-game lead over Los Alamos.
Predictions: 1-2 vs. Morgantown/2-1 vs. Davenport
