That had me laughing out loud.

If I win the wild card, you can come out and visit. Otherwise, no pigs allowed.

      Pawtucket 7-0.

Tried a new 6 man rotation and it paid off.

      Summary:

We basically stormed in Pittsburgh's home and shit all over they're backyard. Closest contest was a 7-2 drubbing. On a postive note: Tardiff did go 3+ innings!

      Nice end to July.

Yoshinaka Toiguchi doesn't get moved this week and has his best week of the season. He's been on a tear since we brought him back from AAA. Clarence Wetton is finally hitting too.

        5-2 week, 4 games back.

The thing that sucks about losing Scott, Carbajal and Wilkerson all in one sim is that it was after the trade deadline. Otherwise it wouldn't have been bad at all...

07/28/1992 Tommy Lang Signed a 1-year contract worth a total of $1,280,000 with the Pawtucket Patriots organization.
              DAMNIT!!!! I just noticed this!

Big signing. I wanted to bring him back the past 3-4 sims but did not have the budget room until today...and of course, he gets signed. Should be very solid the rest of the way.

I guess you do kinda have an idea what you are doin'....

This division is cursed, kudos to Los Alamos for making it interesting. They swept us and now we only have a 2 game lead over them.

I kept waiting for his demand to go down and just threw a lowball offer to him. Was suprised he took it. More of a insurance policy then anything.

L.A. ate his $33 million contract 5 months after signing him? Now they are $-21 million in the hole for projected balance. Wow.

                          Pawtuckets cost = $1.28 mil.

Thinking a safe gamble. Plus might keep him around extra year or 2 if he performs. Not seeing a ton of F/A coming up next year.

It's exactly the kind of transaction I thought we would start seeing more of. Cap space itself becomes somewhat of a currency in a Hard Cap world. Also, with the $10mil max cash carryover you run into a lot of teams that face huge cash balances at the end of the year that they can either lose for nothing or get some "value" out of. Buying out a contract appears to be a viable use of those funds.

However, I'm wondering if some limitations should be considered. Either number of years of a contract that can be bought out or the total debt that buying out the contract would force you into. We essentially have a de facto debt limit of $10 mil (past that level you can't transact in any deals which causes an increase to that debt amt), so I'm wondering if something similar should apply in situations like this.

I faced a similar situation with Romo but after some internal discussions with a third party, I came to the agreement that such a move is not exactly fair to the rest of the league unless the team is eating actual dollars.

Not to pin LA against a wall but that money is essentially evaporated from what I understand of the financials in the league. There is no carry over debt limiting spending the next season.

Perhaps someone knows better but this would be the first of such a situation in the league. If the team faces no future hardship for dumping such an expensive contract, what prevents more teams from taking such an approach?

I fear we will end up running into some major issues if this ends up being a transaction move more teams attempt in order to absolve financial obligations.
