Hats off to Mark Melanson who has been nothing short of astonishing since he was brought in to soak up some bullpen innings in May. He was on the squad for a couple of weeks when he went to the front office and said he had enough left in the tank to start. We didn't really have anything better to do so we plugged him into the #6 spot in the rotation just to give the old guy something to feel good about.

He rewarded us with an 8.1IP | 2H | 0R effort his first time out and we decided to see where it went from there. He announced his retirement right after that, effective the end of the season, and has just kept plugging along. Quite a farewell campaign so far for a career spare.

    5-2 | 64.1 IP | 1.54 ERA | 42 HA | 48 K | 26 BB | 1.06 WHIP | 266 ERA+

He can't keep this going, but for the last 2+ months he's been about as good as he's ever been in his career.

Funny how Ivan Garcia's "back spasms" began right after he signed a new deal. I hate greedy fuckers.

Geoff Scott is a direct descendant of Pedro Zamarida. It's true. Look it up.

Speaking of which, why IS Lim in AA? He's 24 years old and dominating AA hitters.

And hell, Deron Vaughan has three control, and that didn't stop you from giving him over $2M in free agency.

That's just not his game, though. He's good enough to perform in the bigs now. Plus your AAA pitching coach is better than you AA.

That's different. Relief pitchers can get by with bad control. I don't feel nearly as comfortable with Starters.

I'll give it a few more weeks... or until the game tells me he's ready for AAA.

I agree with Linty on this. I knew it would take least a 1 1/2 seasons before he makes the jump although I think he will be fine in AAA. I jumped him up last season early and he sucked. At the end of the season, moved him back up and did better.

Don't rush him! He will be fine.

We're not going to be ready to compete for at least another season or two.

Back above .500. We were 15-32, 17 games under at one point. I told myself I was going to talk a lot of shit when we made it back above .500 but instead I'm going to keep my eyes on the postseason since we're still 6 back. But if that happens, expect a Hit 'em up-style rant.

And yes, Geoff Scott was put up for adoption by Pedro when Old Man Zam was only 8 years old. They're both specimens. So is Pedro's mentor, Hector Carbajal.
