Baltimore Bulldogs (40-24, 1st in Porter)
3-0 vs. Dinos
3-0 vs. Javelinas
A very surprising week as we used 2 brand-spanking, new brooms for our DL visitors. Even without Wallace in the lineup, we had just enough offense and continued our stellar pitching, to earn our first undefeated week of the season.
The Week in Review
- The Rook: Rookie outfielder, Victor Escamilla, has been very impressive lately, especially during Wallace's absence. Victor has hit .365 in June and has been an integral part of our current success.
-Veteran Play: Although Kubota and Castor have been consistently putting up early Stout Slugger numbers, potential Hall of Famer, Takanibu Sato has finally come around to help make Baltimore the highest scoring offense in the BLB. If he can continue to hit like this when Wallace returns from the disabled list, Baltimore will have arguably, the toughest 1-5 lineup to face.
More PB&J, Please: Last week, I praised our pitching for posting the best ERA and WHIP in the IL. I surely didn't believe it would last past one week. However, they somehow found a way to extend the success to a second week. This week we were 2nd in ERA and 3rd in WHIP in the IL. I'll take it.
Who Upgraded the Vaughn?: Last week, we traded a 4th round pick to division rival, California to acquire strikeout artist, Deron Vaughn. As a result, former Rule V draftee, Jonathan Vaughn was demoted back to AAA-Annapolis. Both are lefties out of the 'pen, but Deron has already shown his value over Jonathan, posting 7 strikeouts in 4 innings in his first week in Baltimore.
Next Up:
We face the Mock Division again. We first get 3 at home against my home town who were devastated with a season ending injury to budding star, Christian Rivera. We then head to Davenport to exact a little revenge after we were swept in three straight meetings by one run.
Our poor month of June continues with another losing week. The odds are catching up with us as we lose two more 1-run games and a 14-0 blowout to Hyundai.
The Pen
Our strong point last month let us down again. Two of the losses were credited to Snyder and Crossman and Hudder had an amazing 108.01 ERA for the week. Maybe Pittsburgh wants him?
Behind the Plate
Outstanding week for C's Pat May and Tauro Hidrogo. Combined they had 25 bats and 1 hit. Pat May is ice cold and is showing it. Hopefully next year C Brad Tucker works his way into the BLB, and not far behind him is C Nate Henderson. We can't buy our catchers here in Batavia. (snicker)
Patience
Our offense generated 27 walks but struck out 38 times. Some of our better OBP players had a poor week, with Dominguez striking out 8 times and Marin 6 times.
Power Outage
We aren't a HR team but 3, two of them by Ednams, is pretty sad. Nan was supposedly on a hot streak and did hit .455/.556/.545 for the week but didn't hit one out. We could have used a long ball in those 1-run losses.
The Draft
When all your top picks are gone it really shows. Our minor league system is in complete shambles. We have a few players coming up, but they are either catchers or middle relievers. We built up our minor leagues, sold them out for some BLB talent, now have to build up the minors again. At least we have a young team that can stay competitive and give us another 5-6 seasons to rebuild within.
All-Stars
Batavia has a shot to have multiple All-Stars this season which is very exciting. Rookie Joe Rojas in CF has played superbly, Ednams at SS struggled early but is picking up his game, while RP's Bayer and Crossman have been lights out in the bullpen. If Basil Petro hadn't recorded a 6.00 ERA in April that would have given us five Muckdogs with a good shot, with Bayer being the oldest at 28.

You might want to get his name right now that you've traded for him.
It's Deron Vaughan

Our team went to the dogs this week:
2-1 Vs The Muckdogs
0-3 Vs the Bulldogs.
Reality returns to Los Lunas.
Baltimore's team really has some bite. They jumped out to early leads against my three best starters (this season). They clamped down and didn't let go. I think they're more Pit-bull than Bulldog.
I'm not happy with the way my rotation is set up for the next three games against the Pat's. I really don't want to start tinkering after one bad sim. But this team can get "real bad, real fast".
Well that didn't go well. My team will soon have the Co-Commissioner's Cup locked up at this rate. I knew we'd be bad, but I was expecting a bit better than this to be honest. I'm going to shuffle some players around this sim to see if it has any effect. I've got a couple of guys in AAA that might get a call-up to see if they can help this lineup pretty soon.
This past week was just more confirmation that we own the Stout.
With no game history I can't be 100% sure, but I don't think we've lost a series to the Stout since the mid 80's. I know we won each series in 1990. I know we swept the mighty Colons last year. I know that we just went on the road to take two of three from Wilmington and Washington. And before that I don't remember the last time the Stout and Pilsner matched up in interleague. Get on my level, Stout. Boom.

I'm sorry... we couldn't hear you... we were polishing our 4 Brewmaster's Cups... When you're done with yours could you say that again?
