Jackson (AP)- Mississippi may finally be back on the professional sports map.
In a press conference held Monday evening at the, Governor William Winter announced a bid led by The .400 Group to field an expansion Brewer?s League Baseball franchise in a few years.
?We believe that the fans of this great city and state will welcome this franchise with open arms. Our state has produced phenomenal athletic talent throughout history and it?s time the loyal fans in this state got to see a professional sports product,? stated Winter in front of a select group of journalists in front of the Mississippi State Capitol.
Little is known about the .400 Group. It is known is that the investors in the group are based in New York but their motivation for fielding a team in Mississippi is unknown. An anonymous source remarked that there are several professional economists and Wall Street professionals in the group, a relatively unorthodox composition for a modern ownership group.
Governor Winter also announced the potential site for the new stadium in a proposed sports complex in the vicinity of the Mississippi Veteran?s Memorial Stadium.
?This is the dawn of a new age of progression of Mississippi sports,? concluded Governor Winter. Only time will tell if The .400 Group is successful.
