I think if it's SP of the month it goes to Jerry Morgan. 5 GS, 4-0, 3 CG, 3.10 ERA, 0.93 WHIP.

If it's RP of the month it goes to Ken Bayer. 1-1, 10 saves, 1.29 ERA, .71 WHIP.

Somehow we combined the two and Alverez won it.

Baltimore Bulldogs (28-23, 1.0 GB in Porter)

        0-3 at Washington
        2-2 at California

I'm so glad May is over. That was one of the roughest months we've had in a while. June is a new month and I'm hoping for a bit of a turnaround.

        The Week in Review

        - Top Dog:
I think its safe to say, Loren Wallace has solidified himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in the BLB with his outstanding play so far this year. Wallace has swiftly moved into the Top 5-6 players in the Top 20 List this year. In the first couple of years of his career, the main knock against him, was the perception that he could only hit in Phillips Field. That is no longer the case. Wallace has proven that he is becoming one of the best in the game: .366/.469/1.028 on the road, while adding a May 1992 IL BOM Award to his growing list of accolades.

For the Love of Money- Looks like Ivan Garcia has finally found his swing after an abysmal 1991 and look at that: it just happens to be a contract year. As one of the league's best leadoff hitters, Garcia lead all BLB batters with 28 walks in the month of May with 5 stolen bases.

        Mr. One 'Really Bad' Month:
We played 28 games this month. In those 28 games our record was a dismal, 11-17. Of those 17 losses we lost 14 games by 1-run, and 9 of those 14 in the 9th or extra innings. Ouch.
Is our bullpen this bad? Maybe, but I don't think so. I really just think that our inexperience in the bullpen was exposed during May. With so many winnable games, this has been one of the hardest months to watch. We are probably in the market for a closer. On the bright side, the team as a whole, still has a very positive outlook on their play despite the losses, which leaves a bit of hope for a potential bounce-back month in June.

A Look Into the Future: At least we have a little good news during the month of May. We picked up young Panamanian catcher, Pirro Hildalgo late last year. Hildago was released by Carolina Tobs organization one-day after being drafted in the 10th round in the 1991 draft. Hildago was signed in late October, and was immediately placed in the Camden-AA organization. So far this year, Pirro has looked very solid, including a .317/.381/.446 performance during the month of May. Bill Rorison (our scout) has gained quite a bit of confidence in Pirro's potential. I think he may be a kid to keep an eye on in the near future.

        The Injured
Akira Abe (SP)-torn triceps (2-3 months)

        Next Up:

Big week as the All-Star break is quickly approaching. We play 7 consecutive inter-divisional games, 2 vs. BAT, 2 @ PHI, and 3 vs. CAL.

        Predictions: 1-1 vs. BAT / 1-1 @ PHI/ 2-1 vs. CAL
