  • Former players becoming coaches?

I hired Jerry Holleman as my Manager in the offseason and noticed that he had a former player page. In 1978, he was 27 and played 2 games in Single A for the Seattle Wildfire, with 1 AB where he managed to produce a base hit. It's no surprise that his position on the diamond was catcher.

I don't recall Holleman being in the FA coaches pool until this past offseason. He has pretty decent ratings as a coach so I immediately made him my BLB manager (probably more realistic if the retired players worked their way up the Managerial ranks in the Minors). Anyways, I was disappointed that his BNN player page no longer has his ratings as a player, I think that'd be interesting to see.

As the league continues to age, I imagine we'll see more former players becoming coaches. Hopefully phasing out most of the CPU generated ones that we have now.

Does anybody else know what other coaches have played in our league before?

Another question I pose to you guys is which retired players would you like to see come back as a coach? or what players currently playing do you think could make a good Manager?

I'm personally waiting for the day Harry Elliott shows up in the 'Available Personnel' screen.

They won't ever completely replace the computer generated ones. The random decision to make a player a coach is rare. It happens and it's cool when it does, but not often enough.

My current scout was a former pitcher.

He is apparently suffering from the same disorder that plagued Michael Jackson.

I love Holleman's story. Out of baseball for 5 years after college. Teaching algebra and coaching high school when a new baseball league starts up in 1978 to challenge MLB, where no organization would give him a look. At 27, he tries out and gets a spot as a backup catcher on one of the new single A affiliates. One professional hit later, he's done. Awesome.

No sir, Michael Jackson was first accused of child sexual abuse in like 1993. He is not yet known as a young child toucher in good old 1992.

Still, it's Brewing within him. I'd watch that scout.
