I'm definitely a little lost with where we are right now.

Honestly, I think this is an OOTP driven, "just gonna be a bad year" type of thing. I firmly believe (at least right now) that this team can win games. So I can't figure out who/how/when/if to sell.

I think the Slammers will come around. Too much talent to be that bad.

But you are the Pilsner, so any record you guys put up you should immediately subtract 10 games from. That means you're probably the worst team in BLB history.

Meh... Stevens is the only player that you could really say is underachieving. Theoretically, Wilkerson is underachieving compared to his IL Numbers... but who's to say this isn't his level in the DL? We've seen it before on the league change.

I said it in the off-season. Syracuse has a few nice names... but they don't have enough meat. They're 2-4 in the rotation just aren't that good. They're mediocre on a good day. The lineup is full of place-setters. Geoff Scott is a great player... but he's not the guy you build the team around. He's the perfect complimentary player. Put him in the 2 or 3 hole with a bigger bat and he shines.

My rallying cry.... Water finds it's level... I think this is Syracuse's level in this incarnation.

Said it in the offseason? I don't remember that. The most I remember is you "fitting a story to Shavermetrics" about my now #1 ranked bullpen.

The starting pitching is underachieving. The catchers are underachieving. I'd normally banter with you about us not having a big bat or any meat, but we're 13-25.

                    Where did I say Shavermetrics?

Where are your Starters underachieving? I'd argue that your 2-4 are at or slightly above what they did last season. They're just not that good, there's a difference.

I'm not asking for banter, just sharing an opinion.

I love the opinion, or banter, or talk, so I hope I didn't come off as defensive.

As far as Shavermetrics goes, I was just trying to remember when you said anything about Syracuse in the offseason.

First Z tells me I have no friends in the BLB, then you drop that bomb on me.

Furry Pigs at the Quarter Pole

                            Starting Rotation
We've started the season with a 6-man rotation. Partly because I couldn't make up my mind about Sergio Bela, Alex Gomez, and Chris Gallegos. But mostly because Gervasio Dealba and Joe Soto can use the rest at their age. Everyone got off to a slow start, but lately my starters have impressed me. (Insert jinx here.) We know this rotation needs a massive overhaul. Come next season, Don Davis may be the only SP deserving of a long contract.

                            Bullpen
Probably our strong suit. Definitely our strong suit. Yushiro Uchida and JJ Black are living up to their pre-draft hype. (Obviously I'm referring to the local media.) Jody Griffin is finally living up to his ratings. But Manny Ramirez continues to defy the odds, the scouts and the OOTP gods with his outstanding effort. He's very popular with the fans, and even more so with management.

                            Hitting
There's just no way to sugar coat this. As a team we completely suck at the plate. I mean '62 Mets/'76 Buccaneers suck. The kind of suck you get from a nuclear powered Hoover. And yet...We are grateful for the following:

Leonel Tesina seems to have returned to form. Curt Knight has settled in at 1B and is producing consistently. Kip Carr has finally found his niche as a .300 hitter against lefties. Chan Salguero is hitting .316 as a part-time player. And "Uber Prospect" Ramao Cavadas is progressing more quickly than we dared to dream. If we can get a little more production out of veterans Romano Rodenas and Hector Gonzalez; and if we can get rookie CF Artie Dickerson to settle down; we might be able to do some damage at the plate after all.

                            The Rest of It
We're pretty happy with our fielding and base stealing. Attendance remains lousy; partly due to our .500 record; but also because the fans just haven't warmed up to some of our better and/or veteran players. There seems to be a lingering resentment over the losses of Ken Cahill and Donato Guardamagni. We're hoping a little consistency in the lineup going forward will help to strengthen the bond between players and fans.

Our cautiously optimistic projection for the next quarter: 24 - 20 (.545).

                              You are in last place.

Give Jim a call. He was supposed to be there, but must've lost his map on the way. Maybe you guys can figure it out together.
