2-5. Man, I gotta say, I did not see this coming. Even after the first three weeks, I was thinking... they'll be fine, it's just three weeks. But now...

                Virginia Colonials (18-8)

                This Week: 5-2

                1-1 @ Wilmington
                2-0 vs Washington
                2-1 @ California

                What We Liked:

-- Yoritoki Maeda - Grabs the IL Player of the Week with another hot week. Last year's IL RBI Leader currently leads the league again. With the OBP talent in-front of him in this line-up, "Little Boy" reaps the benefits in compiling this "useless, situational stat".

-- Jerry Daly - The 1991 New Brew pulled triple duty this week... ok... well... he made triples his duty knocking 4 three-baggers in just one week. He racked up 12 triples in his rookie season and already sits at 5 in '92. Could teammate Dale O'Hegarty's BLB record of 17 (1984) be in jeopardy?

-- Toyoshige Yamauchi - Speaking on New Brews, Yamauchi is quickly emerging as a possible contender. Grabbed in the Salary Cap dump deal with Carolina and still officially the Rule V property of Dallas, the 23 year old with the big bat leads the Colonials with 7 HRs - 2 more this week.

-- Nate "The Skull" Magness - Another great start. Another win. Reappears on the Top Players list for the first time in about a year.

-- Danny Nelson - In news that many will call stupid and will be meaningless to many, the Colonials gave Nelson a 4-year extension for less than $400k per year in hopes of keeping the '79 Refreshing New Brew a Colonials for Life. He responded to his new contract with a 441 ft bomb against the hated Bats.

                What We Hated:

-- New Arms - Ivan Bernal, Ty Scott and DeWitt Weeks all won Spring Training battles to replace some salary cap casualties. All three got roughed up this week and leave the Colonials scrambling to find some possible solutions with no money to spend.

-- Sloppy - 8 more errors by Colonial D. Really need to sure up that defense sooner than later.

                Coming Up:

Bock fun coming up with Los Alamos and Windy City.

Some small news for Pawtucket that went under the radar Carmen Chamissa is now signed thru 1996. Pawtucket just didn't want to deal with what would become a possible arbitration nighmare.

I have to point out that Sammy Gaines is hitting .486 with a 1.172 OPS for me. He has 15 RBI in 35 ABs. He's also stolen two bags and played excellent defense.

I'm intrigued because in 61 spring training ABs, he hit .344 with a .904 OPS.

Don Leonard is 1-1. He's the perfect example of why wins and losses don't matter too much in the big scheme of things. He's pitching lights out right now.
