    Pawtucket 5-2.

Nice first month. Pitching continuing its improvement from last season (N#1 DL). I never understand it, but Norm is just a gamer for the Patriots.(2-1 2.32era) Couldn't ask for a better start from 2B Zamora .340, looks like batting the #2 spot is his best spot.

Some bad news: There must be rocks in the outfield cuz yet again I lost another OF. This time its Opio. Former Windy City boy toy "Don Johnson" gets the call up. Lets see if Pawtucket catches lightning in the botle. If not , be interested in what Calhoun can do.

Overal, first month was sort of expected.

Baltimore Bulldogs (19-7, 1st in Porter)

      1-1 at CAL
      1-1 vs PHI
      2-1 at CHI

We close April with a 17-6 record, the best winning percentage for any month that I can remember since I've been at the helm. I'll take the good start and hopefully we can maintain a this lead through the entire season.

      The Week in Review

      - Always the Bridesmaid:
Despite his success in Maine, Kyoden never won a Batter of the Month Award......until now. We can only hope that Kubota maintains this level of play and continues to be one of the most feared new hitters in the IL.

      - 1989 Revisted: Curt Boyd looks to be back to All-Star form after two years of sub-par play. Boyd hit .360/.418/.500 and has been able to hit both left and right handed pitchers, solidifying and everyday starting role for himself this year.

      - Extra Salcido Please:
Young pitcher, Dani Salcido looks like he is ready to move into the rotation. Salcido is 2nd amongst IL relievers in K/9 and has a respectable .96 WHIP. Salcido is third on the Baltimore roster with 23 K's, trailing only O'Moore and Grady, both of whom have pitched 16 and 10.2 innings more than Salcido, respectively.

      Other News

      - O'Moore accepted our contract and is now a Bulldog for the next five years. Not sure how much more is in the tank with O'Moore, but with O'Moore, Kyoden, Wallace, Castor and other key pieces here to stay for a while, I feel comfortable with our nucleus and also feel that we are finally in a good position to contend for a title for the next 3-4 years.

      - Bulldogs' 1989 Minor League Player of the Year, Shaun Catron, has been immediately sent back to Annapolis (AAA) following a 7-run, 1st inning debacle that led to a 9-7 loss to division rivals, California. Normally, I'm a bit forgiving but we WIL NOT allow California to score runs like that. 1989 Rule V draftee, Johnathan Vaughn, has been called up to replace Catron in the bullpen.

      The Injured
None(thank you BLB Gods or alternatively named, Mr. CFO)

      Next

We head back to Baltimore for a a couple home stands against a Mock Division.

Predictions: 2-1 vs. DAV / 3-0 vs. CAR

You plan on coming to see me sweep, Wilmington? How thoughtful of you.

Don't have one anymore, I broke it 2 years ago after I got caught looking in it.

My team is playing the same as it always has offensively we've just gotten better pitching and a bigger park. We're a toddler-sized park now.

I'm not making the playoffs. There's 3 legit teams in the IL. DC, Baltimore, and Virginia. Everyone knows this. You're bragging about doing something you should be doing. It's like bragging that you pay all of your bills and take care of your kids.

The reason we booted Baltimore out of the Stout was because they were just happy to make the playoffs. For us, it's Championship or bust.

Baltimore is quite happy to kicked out of the depths of hell.

I'm not oblivious to the fact that I am "supposed" to make the playoffs, but winning on paper and actually winning games are two different things. BTW, I have no idea the next time we'll have a month like this so I don't mind the nickname, Mr. One Month.

Pat is better manager than I am and I know Washington has been really good for a really long time. But honestly, I'm really not sure what everyone sees in Washington.

I said before the season: I don't believe Washington will make the playoffs this year (I actually picked Batavia so........ Matt, I need you to pick it up) and I'm standing firm to that. Washington's pitching was on the decline last year and, this year, just isn't imposing (to me). You just don't replace an all-time great pitcher like Carlton, even with Toapanta. Their offense was never really explosive and with MAP on the steep path to decline, their offense is missing a lot of punch.

I know that no one agrees and I'll probably be proven wrong, but hey, I call it, how I see it. Sorry Pat. I hope this doesn't ruin the loving relationship we have.

To be quite honest, I agree. I couldn't believe the Shavermetrics had me as a top team. I was shocked even further when I was the top team. Didn't buy it then. Don't buy it now. This team has a ton of question marks.

No need to apologize. I'll always love the step-child of the Stout.
