Hoping McCormick can be that guy.
I wasn't 100% sure of the value in that pick when I first saw it but obviously with the amount of other teams in that same pick range throwing their hands up in disgust there must have been. Not sure I could/would have pulled the trigger on a 2 pitch, low stamina guy in the mid-first, but I can obviously see how it's a valid course of action.

Just curious Clay, once Spectre's time runs out will the utility autopick for him or will it hang up waiting for Commish intervention? Seems in the past it would hang up, but I may have misremembered[/Pettite]

Well, with his low stamina, I had no thoughts of ever making him a starter.

I wanted a closer, and I think McCormick looks like a good bet.

No, I got you. That was my point that I couldn't personally pull the trigger because there was no hope he could ever start, but I can perfectly see why you'd like to lock down the back of your pen for the next 8-10 years.

Not sure. I can access from here if pressed. What times does that clock expire?

                  • I'm fully prepared for Mississippi to autopick the guy I have targeted here.

As for the Evil Ways debate, average-to-good starters come available in the BLB quite often. Great closers are homegrown, developed, and then retained for most of their careers. I would have picked McCormick at 14 if he had been there.

My fear as well. I like the variance of the human owner making the decision because they may target something in particular about a player, whereas I've always assumed the pure autopick is BPA. Since everyone considers their targeted guy the BPA you get worried.

                      • We really know nothing about how Autopick makes their selections. Scares me.

In a related story, I was hoping Gaston would make it down to 1.14 for me.

But really though, McCormick might have actually slipped down into the late first round in a normal draft. But by most accounts, this draft is pretty slim pickings for high impact players. Lots of "maybe" guys that my scout thinks will be decent, but he was one of the few names on the board with that high a ceiling, regardless of position.

                          • Spectre is probably on rounds right now. Either that, or asleep.

I'd imagine it's a near lock he doesn't get the pick in.
