I think it depends on the person.

I'm sure there are guys that go nearly 100% on scout. Guys that go nearly 100% on OSA. And guys that mix the two or weigh it differently.

Scouting budget is a huge unknown. I think it works better in finding diamonds in the rough. Everyone knows who might be the best player(s) in the draft. After that, up to you or your scout.

That hasn't been the case here. I can't remember how many drafts that top 10 guys are head scratchers to some and great picks to others.

Wilmington selects Zak Gaston. Looks like Dallas has picked as well.

Deleon was one of the guys my scouts liked better than Gaston... but he's got a long way to go, Gaston does not.

Solid picks by both of you.

Pierce I had up there, but not the top pitching prospect on the board. Shouldn't have too much trouble making it to the BLB, though.

Gaston was the one guy I absolutely loved. The others I felt like I could've grabbed later in the draft, which is why I was tempted to move out if Gaston was not there. Thanks to those that inquired, there was plenty of interest in my pick.

FWIW the guys I posted I based on absolutely nothing to do with scouting or OSA. A couple of those "top 10" guys are actually in the low 50's of my batter rankings.

And the head scratchers were, IIRC, totally a OOTP 9 thing. I remember those drafts, the first ones after going to one scout. Once we moved to 10, there was a lot more consensus, especially on the top guys.

Gaston reminded my of a young Vittorino Samarano. He was the guy I'd want the most, but DeLeon looks like a can't miss multiple all-star guy as well.

For the most part, yes. Though, I think I messed up Chet Reed by rushing him early and not really knowing how to handle my first major prospect.
