            I hate CPU managers.

Aurillo (Pawtucket) was one out away from throwing a 10 inning shut out. He threw just 100 pitches. Boo to that.

And of course, gotta love my manager for finding a way to screw up a good bullpen and blow two leads. Thanks, man. Lets just keep one of our high priced relievers on the bench to throw one guy out in 6 games but have another old man throw three times in four days. What did he expect would happen on that fourth day?

Well... Week 1 is Week 1.... nothing to get excited about - good or bad. We're still knocking the ball around, but we really miss O'Hegarty. He really is the straw that stirs the drink at the top of the order. We were in all 6 games (3 one run losses).

Water finds its' level... and our level is HIGH... Diesel HIGH.

3-3 sim for the Slammers. Some real bright spots:

-Geoff Scott looked good to start, .423 OBP and a 1.042 OPS.
-Clint Underwood looks like he may be returning to form, .435 average with 3 HRs.
                        -Brad Carter hits .407
-bullpen looked really good. 1.80 ERA.

                        The bad:
                        -Conan sucked
                        -Josey sucked
                        -Suitani sucked
                        -Don Stevens sucked

We can't have those guys suck and win anything.

Also, sad to waive a couple guys that could contribute, but we had to make a decision. There's a few guys out there that can help some other teams and I wish them luck.

                          4-2

Took 2 of 3 from Virginia and lost the last one in extra innings. Then proceeded to give up 14 runs to Morgantown.

The basic line is I'm happy with our SP, and our lineup, but our relief pitching took a huge blow. Bayer, Petro, and Crossman should all be solid. But we got killed this off-season when Rosalio and Melon took huge rating hits for no reason other than OOTP hates the Muckdogs. Combine that with Peterson being on the DL for 3 months and trading away DeLacy to Baltimore...and well one of the best bullpens last year isn't so formidable anymore.

Jose Guzman and Roger Morgan both hit #2000 this SIM.

Either on the path to the Hall of Fame?

Guzman should be an easy 1st ballot pick. Great career average and a better career OBP that Scott, which should say enough by itself.

Baltimore Bulldogs (5-1, T-1st in Porter)

                                3-0 vs. MOR
                                2-1 vs. VIR

Some guys much wiser than I said, "its not how you start but how you finish." All due respect to those guys, but I hate digging holes that I have to crawl out of.

                                The Week in Review

                                - O'Moore for Prez:
Despite the lingering sadness of leaving the team that he won 5 championships with, O'Moore is showing that he still has the fire to win. In two starts, Gil has two wins, a 1.38 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 14 strikeouts.

                                - Kyoden the Conqueror: Kyoden has been placed in the cleanup spot for the time being and hasn't missed a beat. The 28 year old catcher had a .480 OBP for the week. His addition allows Wallace to comfortable enjoy the 3 spot as both Kubota and Wallace hit .400 for the week.

                                - Is It Real Or Is It Memorex:
We brought out the broom for a young Morgantown squad and won 2 of 3 against the mighty Colonials. Its a long season and anything can happen, but 3 games with only 5 hits, and 5 ER and 5 BB IN PHILLIPS FIELD, is quite an accomplishment against any BLB squad. I don't believe I have EVER seen a stat line like that for or against any opponent in my 8.5 years in Baltimore.

                                Other News
                                - Curt Boyd quietly played well in the first week of the regular season. A .343/.389/.649 line is very nice, but where I am more impressed with Boyd is the timeliness of his hits. A return to form for this defensive wizard could go a long way towards solidifying our infield's offensive production.

                                The Injured
                                NONE (fingers crossed)

                                Next

Another early litmus test will be conducted next week, as we host the Stout's other half, Wilmington and Washington. The Wildcats, aside from last year, are always a true test for us with their power lineup feasting in Phillips Field. When facing Washington, we may likely see their starting rotational aces, Toapanta and Tucker. I'd like to see how we fair against this level of talent early.

Predictions: 2-1 vs. WIL / 2-1 vs WAS.
