    Files up shortly...

Actually some notable signings this time. In fact, for my money, the best player in FA has a new home.

We signed Tim Nathan to a one year $6M deal, with a mutual option for a second at $6.5M. I'm really excited about this signing. He's not the pitcher he once was, but he's a great fit for our team and ballpark, and a bargain at that price.

        I hate free agency.

You are offering a 1-year, $1,100,000 contract. The player has indicated that he favors another team's offer but would prefer the following offer from you: A 1-year deal for $920,000.

        Wtf?

He's Dutch. What did you expect?

I've gotten that response from multiple guys - not just the Dutch ones.

Signed Artie Ward to a three year deal.

Hopefully he'll be a solid backstop in the coming years.

Denver seems to be the preferred destination of every relief pitcher asking for at least $5M a year. I look forward to seeing every position on the Denver diamond filled by a reliever in 1992.

Got Cahill to what essentially is a 2 year deal. I had interest in Kubota, but not at that many years for that much money.

I thought the bottom fell out for Nathan at the end of last year. If you can get a six man rotation he MAY be fine. He never has had overpowering stuff, but his curve and changeup really took a hit last year.

I'm hoping he's got at least one more good year in him. I've always liked Nathan, he's a winner.

In other news, we signed Kubota, who was #1 on our must have list. I think his production does well in replacing what we lost in Campo, and this should solidify us long term at catcher.

We also signed Dewitt Michael, former Sin City starter. At just under 5 million/per, I think he's a good signing for the money and I'd like to have a bit of wiggle room for deadline trades. Going after the prizes of Goodwin and Toapanta just wouldn't do that for me. Still looking for a 1 or 2 more signings but I'm happy with what we've gotten so far.

Goodwin has always been a ratings trumps results type pitcher.

I had Kubota as the #1 player available in FA. A little scared of the fact that he recently fell off the Top Players list, but, to be fair, I may value the Top Players list more than others. I think that's a nice get for Baltimore. However, I do feel for Kubota for leaving a perennial power in Maine for a team that, at it's best, will be playing for the 2nd in the IL.
