    This.

Payroll has to be at $100.0 regardless of player expense.

If this were happening to a small market team there would be an uproar.

Believe me... I blame myself for not understanding the rule that we voted on. I thought our own arbi players could push us over. My bad for not getting it. But losing homegrown young talent strictly because they are too good... really sucks.
I'm obviously late to the party and you've pretty much already admitted this, but I think you'd have something here if it wasn't for the two guys you haven't drafted taking up $36 million.

In fact, I'd take it a step further and say that since you traded for O'Hegarty as a minor leaguer, he's homegrown talent as you mentioned and I'd put him in that same category as the drafted guys. Leaving Woodbury as your only "foreign" acquisition.

But, as much as you follow the BLB, and as smart of a guy as you seem to be, I think you would be lying if you said that this (at least the losing draft picks/homegrown guys to high arbitration numbers) was a situation that other teams, specifically small market ones, haven't gone through. In fact, I think that's the definition of the small market gripe in our league. You even eluded to it with the Windy City comment about how you could only hope to handle it as well as him.

Has anyone ever drafted as well as you have with this team? Absolutely not. Has any team ever had as much to lose as you will with this cap? Absolutely not. Do we all know it, and do you have your ring? Absolutely. And, you're right.. move Woodbury and you're still the team to beat.

        ---

All that being said, would it be crazy for me to propose changing our "cost controlled" structure? Instead of 4 years at 280k (except for the Super 2 guys), why not make it 5? So 5 years of 280k, and two of arbitration.

It'd reward both small market and large market teams for keeping homegrown talent.

Yea and it would have to be that way because if no one bailed him out, what would he do? He'd have to release the players. No other choice.

Either way, I understand clay's position. But I also understand the small market position. This is the reality of leveling the playing field.

I think the fact that Clay can confidently field a great team even after shedding $20 MM in salary is an example of why the small market teams will always complain. And rightfully so. But in no way am I pointing the finger at Clay.

It sucks to have to lose players you like and watched grow.

I have an issue that is probably, in some shape or form, an oversight on my part.

After last sim I added MR Adam Starks (recently acquired from Philadelphia) to my 40-man and BLB roster. This sim, he was released to free agency.

From everything I could (and still can) tell... he was not out of arbitration years yet. My only thought is, I am missing something extremely obvious and he was eligible for free agency, or that in coming over from Philly, the game never technically offered him arbitration, releasing him to FA. I know I didn't because he wasn't in my arbi offers screen.

            Any help... is greatly appreciated.

He was definitely Arb eligible or should have been. His Arb estimate was around $2.4mil.

Edit: Actually in game it shows his Arb estimate is now $1.8mil in his Contract & Status screen.

Do I not get a Rule 5 pick? It says Carolina has the 6th pick which should be mine.

Oh...maybe I looked at the wrong screen. I figured it was just a HAL mistake since they have my 1st round pick and that's what it went by for the Rule 5 draft.

In game and HTML wise it shows him as a FA to me.

He became a Free Agent. He obviously didn't get a default Arbitration offer due to the move.

I'll edit him onto your roster.

If someone wants to do some comps as far as postion, age, stats to help me get a arbitration number. We'll set it somewhere between 1.7 and 2.4 (the two numbers we've seen on him.

                            I say give him $2.4.

It's not like Jake can read it anyways.

It'd reward both small market and large market teams for keeping homegrown talent.
If we want to reward teams who draft well this idea isn't that crazy. Your years are slightly off though. Currently it's either 3 minimum, 3 arbitration for regular players or 2 minimum and 4 arbitration for "super 2" players.

It's worth talking about. I would think the smaller market teams would like this idea.
