We used to do a list on the boards to protect guys. We stopped a while back & it has made it easier. I'm biased because I didn't protect any guys I would've protected. I normally read all the posts in each post sim thread, but had a busy few days, so I only read the first post for anything important.
Since our new commish failed to mention it in the first post, I didn't know it was time yet.

So, if other people did the same and missed protecting guys, I'm for considering us making a list. If not, I can deal with the consequences.

The Rule 5 draft happens every season on the same date and it is clearly identified on the off-season schedule that Clay posted. The problem with posting lists is the in game draft screen doesn't reflect the changes. So not only do you need to sort through the in game screen to decide who to draft, you then need to sort through a bunch of forum posts that tell you who is no longer eligible.

That's my biggest thing. Just because this was the last sim before the Rule V, doesn't mean you couldn't have updated your 40 man prior to this sim.

One issue...some teams were probably at capacity on the 40 man, but with this sim having players file for FA, there is no open vacancies...which IRL, you could obviously fill those final spots with minor leaguers...

You could always waive and DFA players who are filing for FA. I've done this in the past to create room on my 40 man to protect players.

I mean in the scenario that you are trying to re-sign the player...

              I DFA/waived the players I wasn't intersted in re-signing....Windley, Simonds, etc.

Looks like Dallas may get ransacked if Rule V proceeds as scheduled.

I haven't checked the game, so I don't know what I prepared to lose, and I also realize that Clay did more than his part by mentioning something last sim thread, but I feel like this year there was less fanfare about "have your 40 set by this sim to avoid the rule V.". Like I said, clay did do his part to say something, and it should be on us to be aware, but I didn't know this was the sim to have them in.

Wow... I fail to see how this is somehow my fault.

I posted the Off-Season schedule over a week ago. The Rule V timing hasn't changed.

My suggestion would be to either get 23 Owners to agree to not take your guys... or I'd trade them before Monday.

I'm sorry that it happened and I'm not trying to be a dick... my hands are just pretty much tied.

If the rest of the league wants to allow posted lists of protected players... I'm fine with that.

I didn't mean to be a dick about it....I realize the way it was worded I sounded like I was blaming you. Usually you (or Andrew when he was commish) post the important stuff for the next sim in the first post of the post-sim thread. I just did a quick check and since I didn't see any thing of importance, I thought this was one of those offseason sims where nothing happens.

I don't want to ask for special treatment. Since it seems like I was the only one who screwed up & missed it I'll figure something out.

You exposed RP Deug-yeom Paek at a minimum.

If it matters, you choose 5th in the Rule V and while it's probably not technically legal, I'd be willing to let you use your pick to protect a player if he is not gone in the first 4 picks.

Thanks, I appreciate it, but I don't want to ask for special rules. I know other guys have lost big players in Rule V.

I'm going to start a trade block to move my guys who are eligible. If anyone sees someone they want, send over a reasonable offer. I could lose them & get nothing, but I'm not just going to give them away in a trade either since you're still getting them while skipping the whole Rule V process.

To think I offered him a one year $30 million deal just a few sims ago that he laughed at...

He was looking for a five year, $22/per, up until last sim. And now the ratings hit has made him want just $460k.
