Since I don't understand the financials very well please explain this to me. How would you have $25 mil?

    From the financial page:

    Payroll:
    Balt - $83 mil
    Bat - $47 mil

    Budget:
    Balt - $113 mil
    Bat - $79 mil

Also can someone let me know what (if any) cash I will have to spend next season on contract extensions?

Are you planning on increasing your scouting or adding coaches who have left your team??

The arbitration ruling coming up will also factor in to next season's amount you get to spend.

            1992

            Payroll
Baltimore: $43 mil ( I don't plan on resigning Stafford)
            Batavia: $68 mil
            -----------------------
            $25 million

and you have (if your scouting, coaching, and arbitration expenditures remain constant)

$82,000 to extend for '92 contracts.

              Oh...we're going into the future!

You really think you're payroll is going to be $43 million? Come on man...I can already tell you're warming up your check writing hand once FA kicks off. You'll be well ahead of me by the time it's over.

I can spend money on two marquee FA at $12 million per year and still have a lower payroll than Batavia.

Well if that's all you do we just might have a better record than you. There is no way you are going to the playoffs, much less sniffing 90 wins, with the guys you will have with a $43 million budget.

I've built the best team I can with my budget. I think I have a solid shot of being over .500. I bitch a lot about the money b/c it simply ain't fair but I am happy with my team. We've come a long way.

EDIT. I should point out "it wasn't fair." The new rules have improved the playing field a lot and I'm greatly pleased they were passed. On to '92!

Dam I was hoping you had some "signing loophole" that Pawtucket might be able to exploit.

9 of our top 12 contracts going into 92 are arbitration deals(estimates of course), including the top 3, and we have a $65 million projected payroll. Only about 14.8 million is in free agent deals/extensions, the rest are arbitration or cost controlled 280k guys. So, I don't know how bare bones Baltimore is right now outside of losing Campo, but even if he has 20-22 guys who will be in the BLB under contract for next year, $43 mill is pretty impressive.

But that being said, I just checked out Baltimore and prez is going to have to spend some dough to stay competitive....

                          Edit-

And before anyone sheds too big of a tear for Matt, he has $35+ mill for free agency...

                              2) Does next year's "projected budget" include those estimates?
1- Pretty accurate by my experience. However... there is now an arbitration sim where you can offer your guys a lower figure than the "estimate." You can save a few bucks with reasonable offers, but go too low and the judge will give them what they want, which is much, much, much higher than the estimate.

                              2- Yes.

How accurate? They're a decent ballpark figure. You can put in a smaller offer and get the guy for less, but you risk losing your arb hearing and you can actually end up paying more than the estimate. So, it's possible to end up paying some guys less than the estimate and some guys more. I'm not sure that really answers your question.

I'm not 100% sure what you meam by projected budget, but the estimated arb figures are included in your projected payroll 1992 figure.
