Never know with setbacks... plus... it cost him the Triple Crown. But he'll still get the Stout Slugger.

Damn, Clay. But, Pat's right. You should be fine.

Denver's pitching chose the best time to finally fall apart after a superb season.

I thought it would take 90 wins to take the Pilsner. If any team can get there, they will take it. Not sure that would happen as it'll require Indy or Denver to go 5-2. Syracuse won't be able to get there.

3 GB for Syracuse is a very difficult hole to climb out of here.

I'm thinking they'll have to get at least a 5-2 sim while hoping either Denver or Indy fall apart to a 2-5, while the other goes 1-6. That's a tough thing to bank on.

Indy is in the best situation. They have the two teams they need to worry about in the last seven games with the best opportunity to control their own destiny.

Pawtucket just ran off a 6-0 sim to take a 2 game lead in the Wild Card, but has Maine and Pittsburgh to end the season. And Pittsburgh isn't exactly out of it either. They could still take the Wild Card if the teams in the Pilsner beat up on each other and they win the series against Pawtucket.

                    Ah, October.

This may be the greatest SIM 26 in BLB History. 7 playoff spots still to be decided.

Well, that was an inopportune time for our pitching to go to hell. Still, we have a series with Pawtucket, and Indy and Denver have to play each other.

The Lager and the Bock should just be contracted when this season ends.

2-4 sim, with all 4 losses occurring by 1 run. Bleeaaaggggh.

I will like to make a statement.

I realize it is only 1991 and many of us have not even come to understand what advanced statistics are. That being the case, you might overvalue the Win for a pitcher. And that is understandable. But today I'd like to submit a case for a DL Pale Ale winner with a less than phenomenal record.

I give you the following names:

                            Denver Brode, DAL
                            Don Leonard, MIS
                            Chet Poole, DEN
                            Pancho Herrerra, PAW
                            Manny Mendez, IND
                            Gil O'Moore, MAI

                            All 1-6 in ERA.

                            Their records?

                            Denver Brode, 12-14
                            Don Leonard, 13-9
                            Chet Poole, 12-10
                            Pancho Herrerra, 9-4
                            Manny Mendez, 14-11
                            Gil O'Moore 9-8

Not exactly Pale Ale numbers there. Yet, each of those names has a VORP over 35. Mendez, Poole and O'Moore are 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively, behind only Mapalo who has now spent the rest of his season in Washington (meaning he never had the chance to watch it either go up or, most importantly, down).

The Top 4 names in Wins have ERAs in the high 3's or 4's.

This is the time to look beyond wins and record and consider the full body of work. The Domestic League is set to finish with at least 6 teams winning 80+ games - something that has only happened once since 1984 (the year of three divisions). Consider the competitive balance. The parity. And then choose the right man for the award.

                            Chet Poole.

Shout out to Ben Irvin for becoming the second Freedom player in history to record a 20 win season. He's been nothing short of phenomenal this season and still has zero chance at the IL Pale Ale. C’est la vie.
