I'll say it now that Donato is down for the count... this year, I think the only team that could have beat Virginia in the playoffs was my team.

Not for my hitting, but for the fact that I had three of top 10 pitchers in all of the BLB as my 1-2-3 in the rotation.

Unfortunately, it won't work out with Donato going down.

Fortunately for me, when I make decisions, its based on what's good for my team only. I made a decision that I thought would make us more competitive at that time, and that helped us for the future. I went for broke and crapped out on the Joe Lopez situation. C'est la vie. I've gotten 2 BLB caliber relief pitchers (draft) out of that deal and, if viewed differently, I was also able to snag a potential great player in Pete Miles (C) later in the draft. 1/2 ain't bad.

Say what you like about the deal, but to me it looks like it only amounted to one year of fun for California. The rest was spent on a 34-year old pitcher who is watching his team play from the couch, with a beer, and the ability to sign his own 20+ million dollar check for next year. Ummm....yea. I'll pass on that.

Doom and gloom is well and good, but as I have said before, I've feel I've been more competitive (and arguably more competitive than Cali) a couple years in a row now because I've had flexibility to make trades without completely depleting my minors. I've brought in winners like Nathan, Lorral, Abe and McMonies because of that flexibility. Quietly, I did make up 15 games on Philly last year after the break because of good trades. I'm only 8 back going into August this year. I've increased my # of wins every year since that 1988 trade. I understand that my performance may be the least significant piece to you but quite frankly, I believe that the deal has done more to help us than to hurt us.
Fair enough. I'm still unclear on the part where taking on Grandon's salary = addintional flexibility (unless you are specifically talking about the draft picks you picked up in the deal, but I can't see how either of those lead directly to your ability to pick up the players mentioned), but you're obvisouly making it work for you. You've put together a nice sqaud which is represented by your W/L totals over the last couple of seasons.

It's also not your fault or my fault that Linty mismanaged his bailout money.

I will never speak of this again . . . until the next time it's convenient.

My team isn't the same without Suarez and Gutierrez in the rotation and Vasquez in the pen. I'll be very surprised if we make it out of the first round. I think Philly has the best shot.

Haven't we all built our teams from the ground up at this point?

I didn't mismanage my bailout money, at all.

Since trading Grandon, I've been to two Brewmaster's Championship, won one, lost the other in Game 7.

Guardamagni is a deal I'd make every single day of the week.

Pitchers that go 25-17 with a 2.47 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 4.36 K/BB rate and earned 117.1 VORP in 1 1/2 years don't grow on trees.

Sorry Linty. The only team that had/has an air-conditioner in hell's chance of beating Virginia in the IL is Philly. Your pitching is awesome but so is Virginia's. Philly can but he needs to be full strength, meaning Newlin has be to back and playing 100%, otherwise its a wrap.

I loved the signing then, love it now.

And shit, if he played for Virginia, he would be healthy.

There's only one team in baseball with a .500 record against Virginia this year.

I was kidding, obviously, but it's a bit of revisionist history to suggest the Grandon deal in 1988 helped you win the Brewmasters in 1987. That's fuzzy math.
