Sorry, Guys. Crazy long day. SIM took forever for the draft. Guess the files got corrupted.

Squared up now. Sorry I couldn't check in earlier. Wife throwing a baby shower and I had a house full of dudes hangin' out so that they didn't have to go to the shower.

Not that it means anything, but we got two of OSA's top 10 draft choices with Uchiyama and McKenzie.

            BLB News: First-Year Player Draft
Monday, June 10th, 1991: The Brewers League Baseball baseball moguls will be maneuvering, conniving and cajoling today to get the pick of the litter in this year's amateur draft. They will be drooling and salivating over the new pups available in the rookie player draft. Morgantown, Los Lunas, Davenport, Hartford and Carolina have plenty to bark and yelp about, since they will have the first five picks. In the opinion of most baseball experts, these are the most highly prized players in the 1991 draft:

            1. Naotatsu Matsumoto, 22 year-old left fielder out of college.
            2. Tadasuke Uchiyama, 21 year-old right fielder out of college.3. Val Aparicio, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
            4. Gene McKenzie, 21 year-old first baseman out of college.5. T.J. Cook, 22 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
            6. Wei-liang Kim, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
            7. Barney Kenner, 18 year-old right fielder out of high-school.
            8. Mal Jackson, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
            9. Dusty Simms, 21 year-old catcher out of college.
            10. Elman Amilakhori, 21 year-old shortstop out of college.
            Charlotte Knights - OSFL
            Syracuse Slammers - BLB
South America - 1984 WBC Runner Up

With all due respect that OSA News clip really doesn't mean anything, I'd take more value off the Top 100.

In a related story, my kick ass scout looks solid again... My 1st and both 2nd rounders debut in the Top 100.

Looks like only six draftees debuted in the Top 100.

Awesome...10 more errors in 7 games.

                  3-4 should have been 5-2.

I was pretty sure I said "Not that it means anything," but of course I agree. Uchiyama didn't even make the top 100.

I saw your three pitchers in the top 100... which is very nice.

You aren't trying to say that 1/2 of the players that debuted in the top 100 debuted as a pick by the Commish, are you?

It's awesome to have good scouts. Batavia suffered for years with a crappy one. Amazing how much one little person affects the entire league.

Pawtucket 5-2. Keep trying to roll along even with this plague going on. According the "PYT Record" I should have the best record in the DL????????

Unlucky 13 now injured. This has to ease up eventually.

Observation: Is it just me or is Davenport pulling away in the Bock.? Didn't see that one coming.

                            It's not just you.

I hope we continue to play like we are for the rest of the season. Everything is clicking from the bullpen to Larry Headington. We could still use some help in our rotation but as long as we are finding ways to win then I'm happy.

The loss of Sato hurt us but Don Hudson is progressing very nicely at 1B and is showing why he was a 2nd overall pick. Still needs to improve at facing lefties but he's only 22 and has a bright future with the Brawlers.

I am saying that. Not only that... the other guys who debuted in the Top 100 my Scout loved. Not a great scout ratings wise either. Dude just seems locked in. Wish he wasn't so old.

NOW... all that being said... guys he loved and stills loves that I drafted... MANY of them still can't produce. I have a lot of guys well into their 20's that can not seem to put up stats or ratings in the minors. So, I take it all with a grain of salt.

Also, the one other thing about all 3 of my picks that hit Top 100 out of the gate... all 3 were from Feeder Leagues. I can't help but wonder if the Scouts have a better (more defined) look at them out of the gate than INTL guys.

                                Washington Bats - SIM 9 - (38-20; T-1st)
                                1-1 vs. Wilmington: L 6-8, W 3-1
                                1-1 vs. Virginia: W 10-9, L 1-10
                                2-1 vs. Morgantown W 2-1, W 7-5, L 3-9

4-3 Stout Sim. I would wish for better than 4-3 when I get seven home games, five of which are against sub .500 teams, but with the injuries starting to pile up, I'll take 4-3. The season series between Washington and Virginia is now lead by the Colonials 3-4, but when you look at the run differential, Washington 26, Virginia 49, it looks much worse. This is the second time this season where the Bats have beat the Colonials by one-run and then proceeded to lose the other game of the two game series 10-1.

                                The Good
It's only two starts, both against the Mohawks, but Manny Duran might be here to stay. The 26-year-old was acquired in a trade with Denver in '88. Two starts: 7 IP, 2 ER, Win. 9 IP, 1 ER, Win. To start this season (for the first time in two years) the Bats were using a five-man rotation, or as Clay would call it, Friday night. In addition, their have been struggles by a starter (that won't be named until the "Bad" section), so Duran might just stay in the rotation all year.

                                The Bad
The injuries are really starting to pile up. Six BLB players are on the injury report. Not a huge issue but three of them are my regular starting outfielders. Fortunately both Michio Nago and Miguel Angel Padilla will return next week.

Boy oh boy...I sure hope the time off helps Cristofor Villazon. The 35-year-old has hit a wall. Overshadowed for years by former D.C. greats Romano Gonzalez and Joe Chavarraga, Villazon is the last remaining pitcher from the Bats first Brewmaster's Championship. He will soon pass Gonzalez for the franchise lead for innings pitched...and it's starting to show. Villazon has completely hit a wall and is unfortunately on the books for $8,000,000 next season. He strained his oblique this week and will be placed on the 14-Day DL. Hopefully the time off can get him back to (at least) '90 form.

                                The Minors
Cut Day! Hooray!!! I filled my minors this off-season with a bunch of scrubs so I shouldn't have any issue getting rid of the dead weight.

                                What's Next?
The DL comes to town...three vs. Indy and three vs. Syracuse...let's see how they respond to no DH...
