- Hitting. We hit 9 HR's this week, the power surge with Bovey continues. Unfortunately he's an old guy who won't be with us next year, but for now he's playing great.
- Ruben 'Cool Papa' Marin also hit 3 jacks, giving him 8 on the year.
- The bullpen...again. Crossman, Rosalio, DeLacy, Little...0 ER on the week.
Bad
- SP Athey got jacked up in his 2nd start and blew out his back. His 6.75 ERA for the week pales in comparison to the fact that he's gone for the rest of the season. He was 3-1 with a 2.72 ERA.
- 7 errors in 7 games...unbelievable.
Other News
- Our experiment with moving Basil to SP was favorable. 6.3 IP, 3 HA, 2 R, 4 K's, 1 BB. The first inning he was nervous, walked the 1st batter, then a double brought that guy home. The rest of the way, 1 run, no walks. He doesn't have a 3rd pitch so we'll try to keep him on a short leash and let the bullpen come in and finish out games.
- We've gone from last to 9th in Top Systems over the course of the last year. '90's 2nd round draft pick MR Ivan Martinez learned a 3rd pitch and is now the #14 best prospect as a SP.
- '89 2nd round pick Helespontico Jarava was moved up to AAA and has been hitting .351/.395/.389. The 24 year old from Brazil has an amazing work ethic, is smart, and extremely loyal. We're hoping for his continued development and grooming him to take over 2B for Dynes next season.
- DeLacy (2.30 ERA, 0.96 WHIP) and 2B Dynes (.281/.380/.413, all 8's in infield defense) are on the block.
elprez's boy Lonnie Grady winning IL POTM. Nice. Definitely excited for the kid.
Would like to have seen Washington win the DL Hitter side, but Pawtucket has too good a catcher.
As a consolation prize, Don McDonald's May was impressive enough to the DL Pitcher honors for the month. In his last start, he threw 6.2 innings against Syracuse allowing zero hits. But he had walked 6 and his pitch count was 118. History prevented for another night.
We went 3-4, our best sim in weeks as we finished May a cool 8-20. We were never going to be a contender this year but the injuries have just destroyed any hope we had of being decent.
Hector Castre is quietly having a very solid season but he's getting absolutely no help. Kip Powell has been a pleasant surprise, holding his own in LF. Other than that, there's nothing positive to report in Carolina.

That would have been awesome.
He did finally lose against Cali last week. 7 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs. We had 12 hits and only scored one run, so I wouldn't even put that on him. And yes, he still wants to close...
