Finally our 1st winning sim of the season...and we're still in last place by 5.0 games!

Good

- The bullpen didn't allow a single run...now that will win you games. Bayer, Crossman, DeLacy, Gallagher, Hudder, Petro, Rosalio, Stephens...18 IP, 0 ER, 15 K's, 7 BB.
- The FA pickups of Bovey and now Windley are paying off. This week combined they scored 14 runs, had 8 RBI's, and drew 11 walks.
- We really like Isaiz in CF. His OBP is .309 but his RF is 3.42 and his ZR is 4.9.
- On offense 30 BB's to 32 K's. In years of past this number would often be in the 15-40 ration.

Bad

- Another error by MacGruder gives him 7 on the season at SS.

Pitching is still getting it done. Our 2.58 bullpen ERA ranks 2nd in the BLB behind Batavia. However, our starting CF is now injured and our OF was already bad prior to him getting hurt. Our run total is 3rd lowest in the DL and our strikeout total is obscene.

So....somehow, we need to improve our offense. Refund Perez needs some help.

I didn't think we could win with the lineup I had to field due to injuries. And we didn't. Now #2 starter Hector Perez is done for 4-5 months, so pretty much call it a season for him. I just hope it doesn't hurt his ratings.

Philly Freedom (21-11; 1st)

Trying something a little bit different this SIM. We went 3-3 overall, but I wanted to spotlight a “Freedom Game of the Week” this time around.

Setting: Game 2 of our home 3 game series with Wilmington, after dropping Game 1, 1-5. Pretty good pitcher’s duel takes place with Ignado Sanchez on the hill for WIL and Ben Irvin going for the Freedom. Geoff Scott was given the day off for routine rest. 35,000 are in their seats and 101 fans are apparently intrigued enough by the match-up to see the game in standing room only.

Sanchez pitches his guts out over 7 innings, allowing only a 3rd inning leadoff single to Pete Summers and a leadoff double to Joe Lukies in the 6th (followed by a Sac Bunt to move Lukies to 3rd, a walk to Gary Lippincott who is immediately caught trying to steal 2B turning a 1st and 3rd 1-out situation into a runner at 3rd with 2-out situation) but neither hit leads to a run.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats’ lineup has managed to push across an early 2nd inning run against Irvin on three hits during the inning, but that was all they could muster as Irvin scattered another 3 hits throughout his 8 IP.

Sanchez is lifted in the 8th (replaced by LHP Hernando Ortiz) despite the fact that his pitch count is only at 87, he’s also LH and the inning is scheduled to start with two LH batters, Lonnie Bolden and Pete Summers. RP Ortiz walks Bolden after getting ahead in the count 1-2. Bolden is lifted for a pinch runner. Trailing 1-0, Pete Summers is asked to sacrifice the pinch runner over to second, which he does successfully.

Wilmington brings in RHP Takanibu Maeno to face RH Joe Lukies and immediately a buzz goes through the crowd as the begin to chant “G Scott, G Scott” knowing that the face of the franchise is available to pinch hit. Lukies is called back to the dugout and Scott calmly takes a few warmup cuts before strolling to the plate. Everyone in The Ike is waiting for something special to happen and they don’t have to wait very long. Scott smashes the very first pitch he sees into the seats in deep right CF to give the Freedom a 2-1 lead. Maeno looks shell shocked but manages to get through the rest of the 8th without allowing any more runs.

Chad Mullen is called on to close it out and immediately surrenders a leadoff double to Dani Alveraz in the 9th on a ball that very nearly cleared the wall in RF for what would have been the tying run. Mullen buckled down and struck out Angelo Opio and Vincent Nino before getting Hector Lopez to ground weakly to 2B. Ballgame.

Irvin picked up his 7th victory of the season in 7 games started and was named the player of the game (8IP | 6 H | 1 ER | 6K). It was the 5th HR of the year for Geoff Scott and 35,101 fans went home and had trouble sleeping after the late inning theatrics of a victory which snapped a 3 game losing streak.

Yes I use it and I honestly believe I messed that up somehow Never happened to me before. It BETTER be the reason or else my coaches are going to get axed!!!!!
