CHARLOTTE, NC -
Play Ball '82 chairman T.J. Cutini has interrupted Easter festivities at his home in Charlotte to fly to an undisclosed location for an emergency meeting with Brewers League Baseball management. The topic? Purchasing the Denver franchise and assuming control of the organization.
In a surprising move, Denver Bulls owner SC_Dawg has left the team to pursue other opportunities, leaving the franchise in the hands of the league. The powers that be want to move quickly and efficiently to ensure that the franchise is put in good hands, and that's where Play Ball '82 comes into play.
"The plan has always been us bringing the BLB to Charlotte. Ideally, we'd like for it to be an expansion team that we could call our own, but this is a unique opportunity and we must pursue it", said Cutini. "We think that in the long run, this may work out better because the Bulls are an established franchise with star players the folks in Charlotte could really embrace."
BLB rules state that an ownership group must be in place for two years in order to move a franchise. Cutini says this works out better in terms of building a stadium for the team. "The Carowinds Boulevard location was actually our second choice to put a stadium. With more time, we think we can convince the people of Charlotte that a downtown ballpark is what really needs to happen", said Cutini.
Cutini hopes that this Easter Sunday meeting will be all it takes to convince the powers that be that Play Ball '82 is the group that should assume control of the Denver Bulls. "Otherwise, I'd be sitting with my family eating some ham!", Cutini said jokingly. "Of course, I think there's a chance they could allow us to purchase the franchise right then and there. Otherwise, this meeting could wait until tomorrow."
Play Ball '82 will alert the local media as soon as the meeting has ended, at which time, Mr. Cutini will make himself available for comment before flying back to Charlotte.
