The Good

The Bad

It appears both Victor and Hector have chosen to wack off to start the year. 9th in runs scored????? I can't see this continuing forever. What I do see is we really, really miss Helmrich. No one is stepping up in his place in the OF. This is the one area I'm thin down in the minors.

1 - 2 v Hartford; 2 - 1 v Maine. Rookie SP Don Davis looks to be the real deal. Can't complain about rookie SS Juan Padilla, either.

Sorry to loose a couple of decent guys to the waiver wire. Thus far this season I've had 3 players opt to take minor league contracts with other teams instead of joining my farm system. Gotta' do something about our image.

Feels good to see a winning sim, even if we got it on a sweep of a fellow struggling team. The flip side of that coin is that we struggled again against a top team in the IL. However, I like what I'm seeing early offensively and our pitching may come around, I think I'll just have to tweak it a bit until I get the right combination of call-ups.

The Good
- That 3/4/5 is dangerous. Campoveroe (RF) is hitting like its 1981 instead of 1991. Wallace (LF) has finally made the top hitters list. Ron O'Fallon (1B) is looking like the guy I expected him to be in Baltimore. Yes, that Phillips Field, lefty-love has a lot to do with it, but I'm not complaining. All three hitters have +.350 BA after two weeks of play. We'll see how they fare on the road this week.

- Romano Rodenas (C) has opened the season like a man on a mission.....to get a new contract. Hitting .381/.480/.571, Romano may find himself bumped up in the lineup if he can continue this fine run.

The Bad
I believe Pat jinxed Ivan Garcia (2B) with "the curse of the commentator." After a good spring training, Garcia is hitting just .146 through 2 weeks. He also just one steal after 48 AB.

The Injured
Akira Abe (SP) will be back after next week and we can use his consistency and leadership.

Next
-Nice early litmus test against our division rivals, as we head to Batavia and Philly for a week of fun and excitement. Not sure where we'll fare, but both teams have made decent starts out of the gate.

Hitting still good, pitching still bad, team still average.

Also interesting that despite a .304 team average, this team strikes out a ton. Our 100 Ks in 12 games places us 2nd in the entire BLB to Los Alamos. I wouldn't mind, were it not for the fact that we've only hit 7 HRs.

R.J. Curtis and Curt McMahon, both acquired in last season's Larry Headington deal, are both balling at AA Reno. So the starting pitching will get better....eventually. Unfortunately, OOTP11 seems to have turned Larry Headington into a stud, so that trade appears to be a bit of a wash right now.

Fan interest in Batavia is at an all-time high and the seats are packed.

Good

- Petro and Bayer are a deadly bullpen combo. This week together they had 7.3 IP, 0 ER, 11 K's, and 1 walk.
- Bovey continues to hit well. .364 for the week with 2 RBI's (both in the 10th in the win vs. Washington).
- Down 6-4 to Wilmington in the 9th we come back to win 7-6. Miller get's a hit on an error, Bovey get's an IF hit, Marin walks, May walks (Miller scores, Isaiz get's a hit (Bovey score), Ray get's a 2-out game ending hit to score Marin.

Bad

- 1B Jesus, C May, and 2B Dynes are all ice cold. They all helped contribute to my .219 batting average for the week.

With the exception of three guys, 6 regulars are hitting well, well below their career levels. Not concerned at this point. I'd be concerned if guys were actually playing at their level and still losing games. This sort of performance shouldn't last too long on the offensive side.

Well, from top to bottom the entire organization is just struggling. Lost my top prospect to Tommy John surgery. There goes that time table. Hoping to have Soto around for 1993. Guess it'll be 1994 or 1995.

Just a very bad two weeks for the franchise. Oh well. Algorithms for the win.

After playing on the road a lot and facing Washington, Philly, and Cali we're pleased with out .500 record. April is always tough for us because we're never at home and face the division leaders.

Washington Bats - SIM 1 - (9-3; 1st)
2-1 vs. BAT: W 5-2, W 4-1, L 0-2
2-1 @ BAL: L 6-7, W 7-1, W 13-2
Won all four series so far this season. Feels good. Damn good. The loss to Batavia was in the 10th inning and the loss to Baltimore, should have been prevented by pulling Lang earlier in the game...but again, you can't complain about a 4-2 sim.

The Good
Lets give it up for infielders R.A. Grounds and Robert Abott. Combined 26/51!

Starting to feel really good about the signing of RP Tsu-Wee Xi. So far, the AI or HC, whatever you want to call it, has pitched him in seven games, second most on the team, and he has given up zero ER in 10.1 IP.

The Bad
Carlos Bamentos is headed to the bench. After starting the season 1/15, starting vs. LH pitching, Bamentos will give the spot up to youngster Raul Berrera who had a pinch hit homerun, the first of his career.

The Farm
8-5, 9-4, 10-3. Not bad, not bad. Most impressive player....Darrel Hatfield. The Single-A outfielder has 20 RBI through the first 12 games...he had 39 RBI in 114 games all of last season.

I've never seen anything like it. 91/61 BB/K rate so far for the offense. Don't think I have a guy over 24 years old starting on that team, either.
