I'd have to say Philly hasn't done too bad since they traded him.

But, the question is, could they have parlayed those big seasons into titles with him???? Geoff Scott and Mel Woodbury in the same lineup? Come on!?!? They'd have every offensive record in the BLB.

I don't think anyone in this league would try to cheat but there are some pretty competitive people (who have been in this league a lot longer) who do push the rules to the limit, and even make moves that are against the 'gentleman code' we have. I can't remember the details, but there was a FA signing followed by a trade to a team who financially couldn't sign the player. Signing a FA just to trade them is in the good sportsmanship rules but it was still done (although I think the move was later rescinded).

I didn't mean to make a big deal out of this specific contract, rather just wanted to make sure we do get a specific rule in place to avoid this being an issue again.

Not that $10 mill fits this exact description, but I think large-ish bonuses for Pitcher or Slugger of the year or appearances are reasonable.

The most I've ever offered for a bonus, I think, was 2.5 million for a pitcher of the year award. My usual thought process with bonuses goes like this:

____ Of the Year: If this guy I sign for 8 million a year wins Stout Slugger, he's worth 10. The system doesn't allow statistic based incentives (HRs, hits, etc) so I figure for a award winning season a lot of guys in real life with incentive laden contracts would make a reasonable amount.

Plate Appearances/Innings: A lot of times I'll sign a guy who is probably going to be a utility guy, and offer him a $1 mill bonus for 500 PA's. I figure that's a realistic bonus and incentive to sign with me over the next team offering him utility role money. For IP, I'll usually give a 1-1.5 million bonus for 200 IP if a guy is going to be fighting for a 4th-5th starters role, because if they're good enough over the course of a season to get 200 innings, they've probably earned that bonus.

Anyways, no one gives a shit about how I offer contracts, so I'll shut up now. But I don't think we should eliminate bonuses completely. I think we should do a limit of 10% of the contract or x(500k?) amount, whichever is higher. I say that because a 500k bonus on a 500k contract is not too crazy, but a 10% limit would not allow that.

But as usual, I really don't care, I'm fine with whatever the group decides.

Oh yeah, and... none of this bonus confusion ever happened with the old commish.

FWIW, that was me, and we did contract Andrew to explain the situation and clear the deal before we made the move. Of course it was still a misunderstanding and the deal wasn't allowed.

Maybe. Arredondo played great the 1st two years but struggled a bit this year. Would a 3-time Stout Slugger help over a pitcher who won 15 games his 1st two years in Philly...probably. It would have been fun to watch that's for sure.

Who was that guy? I haven't seen him in ages. We're losing all our friends to girls and work.

Once him and Linty get married they'll be able to post more again.

Maybe, or perhaps we would have lead the league in days lost by MVP caliber players to injury. Neither guy is exactly Lou Gehrig.

On the question of incentives, what's the most in incentive any player actually ever asks for when they're a FA? $1mil? $1.5mil? $2.5mil? Whatever that number is, just set a maximum that can be offered at that level then everyone is always on an equal playing field when it comes to those types of offers.

Technically only 2 weeks out in '89. A post-season injury too, but still has played a lot of games in the last 3 years.

The trade has really been good for both teams. I still like Takahashi and I really think Singleton getting put in the Windley deal takes away from the value you got. Singleton as a young arm in your rotation right now would look very good.
