Did we ever come to a conclusion on adding rules about incentives? If I remember right, I offered Tardif somewhere around $13.0m per season. When I initially saw I lost him to Davenport I figured they offered him more. Turns out they offered less, but a huge incentive ($10.0 for pitcher award bonus). I'm not disputing this since we don't have any rule in place, that I can remember, but I think we need to add something. It just isn't realistic to have an incentive that gives the player almost the same amount of money as their entire contract.

$10 million for pitcher of the year?!?!
That's bullshit. It's a little disappointing that anyone in this league would do something like this.

Unfortunately, I have to say this is, to be frank, a poor choice by the Owner. It's kind of the whole "Gentlemen's Agreement" League that you try to be logical and within reason on offers like these. Sorry.
I guess the league could always get together a vote for Tardif despite his record.
I have a better chance to be BLB pitcher of the year than David Tardif does.
I think the fundamental problem with free agency right now is that players have no idea of their place in the league. Role players and average at best pitchers are asking for money as if they're the best players in the league, while players like Tardif think there's a chance in hell that they're going to be the best pitcher in the league. Ordinarily a player would recognize his relative value in comparison to the rest of the league and scale his salary demands and contract discussions accordingly, but that obviously doesn't happen.

To be fair, that's always been the issue and unfortunately likely always will be. I would think the coding to fix that would be a monster.

Well yeah, but the fact that it's always been an issue and always will be should be cause to make some "house rules" that govern the inclusion of bonus money in contract offers. I know we're all supposed to be gentlemen and blah blah blah, but the removal of an ethical gray area is never a bad thing.

I would love for people to write up a proposal that makes sense for the league.
