Did we ever come to a conclusion on adding rules about incentives? If I remember right, I offered Tardif somewhere around $13.0m per season. When I initially saw I lost him to Davenport I figured they offered him more. Turns out they offered less, but a huge incentive ($10.0 for pitcher award bonus). I'm not disputing this since we don't have any rule in place, that I can remember, but I think we need to add something. It just isn't realistic to have an incentive that gives the player almost the same amount of money as their entire contract.

Didn't get Parangao or Xi, so I guess this could be considered a loss for Baltimore.

But we did save 16 million/yr in the process. All in all, happy with free agency. Also a reminder, you can adjust ticket prices right now, too.

$10 million for pitcher of the year?!?!

That's bullshit. It's a little disappointing that anyone in this league would do something like this.

Without even getting into that specific contract, I think incentives should be removed as an option.

It's clear that they are unrealistic as they don't follow any real contract rules and the AI players don't understand them as they should.

Surprised I was able to land Xi. Should provide some much needed lefty help out of the pen. Also landed a few minor leaguers for my AAAA team.

Unfortunately, I have to say this is, to be frank, a poor choice by the Owner. It's kind of the whole "Gentlemen's Agreement" League that you try to be logical and within reason on offers like these. Sorry.

I guess the league could always get together a vote for Tardif despite his record.

FYI - You can always adjust ticket prices.

I have a better chance to be BLB pitcher of the year than David Tardif does.

I think the fundamental problem with free agency right now is that players have no idea of their place in the league. Role players and average at best pitchers are asking for money as if they're the best players in the league, while players like Tardif think there's a chance in hell that they're going to be the best pitcher in the league. Ordinarily a player would recognize his relative value in comparison to the rest of the league and scale his salary demands and contract discussions accordingly, but that obviously doesn't happen.

We never did solve anything about incentives. I brought it up originally and thought either:

a.) none unless the AI asks for it

b.) 10% of the yearly contract (just to keep it in but make it realistic). So on a 4 yr/$20 mil I can offer 500k in incentives.

Just my thoughts. The AI just can't handle it unfortunantly.

To be fair, that's always been the issue and unfortunately likely always will be. I would think the coding to fix that would be a monster.

Well yeah, but the fact that it's always been an issue and always will be should be cause to make some "house rules" that govern the inclusion of bonus money in contract offers. I know we're all supposed to be gentlemen and blah blah blah, but the removal of an ethical gray area is never a bad thing.

I would love for people to write up a proposal that makes sense for the league.
