Bingo. Which answers your earlier question on why I voted against this.

I think this system is bad. Sure I can get compensation for Windley, but I don't think I should.

But I did vote against it when I had the chance. I think it's bad for the league. I think a lot of the financial model we're in is bad for the league, but maybe this will be our "dark" chapter.

However after seeing that I lost the vote, I don't dwell on it. This will play itself out.

If I took this approach, every teams budget would have dropped by about 50% after the first season. There are some pretty drastic changes to the financial system between 2006 and 2007 and changes were absolutely necessary. I'm not just sitting around changing things just for the fuck of changing them.

Bottom line, I gave everyone a chance to chime in and most people chose not to. I've been very up front about every change to the rules; I ask and consider everyones opinion. I don't know what else I can do.
Lets just say that I view this change as a drastic detrimental change that will consequentially keep the status quo. I disagree wholeheartedly that there was a chance for discussion and this does look like it was done on the fly.

Just don't expect the Wildfires to have any team worth a damn for a very long time...I fully expect to have my market size drop 2x before I can field a winning team based on my teams ability to have the worst or next to worst record for about 5 seasons running.

Pardon me while I go choke this down.

Jistic, for the love of god please tell us WHY you think it's bad for the league. :D

Probably not, but there was incredibly poor timing. This has been a great thread for everyone to voice their opinions, unfortunately, there was a thread asking for these opinions a week ago.

But I don't get why it's so shocking that the reality of the situation wouldn't fully materialize till like things like, I don't know, the budgets and Free Agency actually were real!??!?!?!

This is my first off-season. This is everyone's first off-seaon with 2007. Arbitration ended, budgets are final, free agency is here... this IS realitically the first time we could have an educated opinion on the topic.

As much as it hurts me to do so often, I have to agree with Clay.

Until we had this update, how were we supposed to know how much someone like Stiver or Windley was going to be asking for on the open market? Plus, everyone is getting completely new budgets.

Shut up, Die.....s... I mean... YEAH GOOD ONE, Diesel!!

And, again, not bitching about it.... but I don't think it's fair to have the "you snooze you lose" attitude about it. No one is arguing that the rule is in place and we are all going to live with it. But, I think the whole "guess you should have said something 2 weeks ago" thing is out of line.

I have no problem keeping the rules this way for the 1980 off-season but it might be something to discuss for next year. Guess the BLB is always a work in progress, as we always have the "off-season discussion thread."

I mean, I had made a plan to go after Stiver, but I had no idea that he was going to ask THAT much. Only the teams who looked at re-signing them would know that.

If I remember Clay... you were one of the people that wanted to get this season off and running as quickly as possible... so which is it? do you want time to sort stuff out or do you want a sim TODAY???

I've gotta back up Stu on this one. I pay as much attention to the forums as anyone. If I don't post something on a subject, I live with the consequences of not speaking up. FACT: There was a thread entitled "draft compensation" in this very forum. FACT: Stu put up a ton of financial data before we simmed last thursday with everyone able to voice their opinion (the thread in the 2007 discussion forum was started on the 14th of march actually, before the last season was even over). My budget was of little surprise to me when I saw it after thursday's sim. arbitration was still up in the air, yes, but if you had 1) a lot of guys heading to arbitration and/or 2) a high rated player going to arbitration, you could easily be prepared for what was coming.

Maybe if you guys spent less time in the "let's light this candle forum" and more time reading what Stu posts and making some insightful comments we wouldn't be talking in hindsight.

You have to be kidding me. Out of line? The fact is that anyone SHOULD have said something two weeks ago. You think the topic was brought up then just to fuck around for a bit until he secretely REALLY wanted to discuss it today? Gimme a break. You make it sounds like Stu owes us all his time and effort towards this league. You should be happy we even have some many realistic features installed in this league.

Fuck if this is how this league is going to be now with everyone bitching you might as well call it dead already. Go ahead California, take my team, I'll be happy to do it if it all means we can move on in life.

The bottom line for me is we are converting to a far superior game, something that should have made the game easier to play and more fun for everybody. The truth is however, this conversion has been absolutely fucking miserable for me.

Like I said earlier, the rules are in place for this season and we can re-visit this next year.

I'm done talking about this and I suggest everyone else be done too.

You're not supposed to know until you actually begin negotiating. Did Soriano say "I'm hitting the FA market this offseason, and I'm looking for 18 million per."? Sure, we assumed he wanted a lot, but didn't you also assume Stiver wanted some outrageous amount due to the fact that Pawtucket didn't resign him?
