  • 1990 Playoff Discussion

The Brewers League Baseball playoffs start today! Only a handful of teams remain in the running for the ultimate prize -- the Brewmaster's Championship championship. It's playoff time -- a time of glory and victory awaits one of the teams. The team that rises to each eventful occasion -- the team that makes all the right plays at the right time. Today is the start of the Wild Card Round and here are the opening games:

Denver Bulls versus Mississippi Storm - Mississippi leads the season series 5-4
Syracuse Slammers versus Maine Guides - Maine leads the season series 4-3
Windy City Playboys versus Washington Bats - Washington leads the season series 4-3
Virginia Colonials versus Philadelphia Freedom - Philadelphia leads the season series 5-2

So who you got? Who is the annual 1st round upset?
    Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
    Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041
    Washington Bats - 1979-2013

I'll go with Virginia over Philly as the upset.

      Maine over Syracuse in 6
      Mississippi over Denver in 7
Washington over Windy City in 5
      Virginia over Philadelphia in 7.

      Book it.

I get a really weird feeling that I'm going to be the upset. I also don't think I'm the only one.

        Syracuse over Maine in 6.
        Mississippi over Denver in 7.
        Philly over Virginia in 5.
Windy City over Washington in 7.
        Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
        Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041

Lots of possibilities for upsets considering how tight each season series was, but I find it hard to take any of the Pilsner teams to match up day-to-day with Maine and Mississippi.

The clear separation is in a Denver/Syracuse series (if such an upset were to occur twice). Syracuse has a commanding 12-9 edge in that series. Denver also holds a 6-3 advantage over Maine. Every other series is evenly matched.

In the IL, Washington has the jump on Virginia, but that requires Virginia overcoming that 2-5 disadvantage against Philly (who is cold coming into the Playoffs and without a IL Stout Slugger caliber player). And Washington has a 6-3 advantage over Philly.

Of course, the playoffs start at 0-0 so does it ever matter what happened during the year?

Interesting to note...Clay's best pitcher...comes off the DL in the middle of his first round matchup.

He will already have swept us by the time Pancho's ready to go.

That's a lot to put on a guy that hasn't pitched in a year.

I often wonder how the game handles this.

By the way, I'm exported and all ready to go...if for whatever reason Clay wanted to do a live sim early or anything...

Also...if Clay would want to run the sim and then send me the PBP I would post a live sim.

Philly is also locked and loaded if the mood should strike.

I must say, if we do ever reach a point where "on-demand" playoff sims are run, I'd be interested in a 3 game sim, export, 3 game sim, export for game 7 if needed scenario for each round of the playoffs. It would give teams a chance to adjust mid playoff series but shouldn't take any additional time to complete. We have a very active bunch of owners who would be fairly responsive in such a case and the participating owners could post when they were ready for the next sim. It might add some additional intrigue to our playoffs. Thoughts?

I think Philly pitching is still too strong. 4-2
I think Maine is out, Syracuse pushes through. 4-2
Washington will wipe Windy City in the sweep. 4-0
Mississippi pulls it out relatively easy. 4-1.

No upsets in the first round.

The only "issue" I can see, is that we need everyone to be at 25 on the active roster. It doesn't matter if all the playoff teams are ready, we still have to have everyone exported.

I have a family reunion tomorrow and I'm running in a 5K on Sunday morning.... so Sunday Mid-Day will be my first real chance to SIM.

Plus, as someone mentioned, everyone needs to get down to 25.
