Regular season ends Thursday so I guess this should be as good of a time as any to start this thread. You guys already know who I'm pimping, but for a refresher:
IL Slugger of the Year Candidate
Loren Wallace (OF)
-1st in IL AVG (.355)
-1st in IL SLG (.593)
-1st in IL OPS (.992)
-1st in IL RC (9.93)
-2nd in IL Hits (182)
-6th in IL RBI (103)
-7th in IL OBP (.400)
-6th in IL XBH (66)
-5th longest hitting streak in BLB at 21 games in 1990
-Before you dismiss this amazing performance as a pure product of Phillips Field, please review his home/road splits over the course of the season.
APR: .375 / .500
MAY: .410 / .169
JUN: .367 / .240
JUL: .510 / .351
AUG: .478 / .305
SEP: .323 / .326
As you can see, Wallace had two bad months that significantly impacted his road average. But as you can also see, he has completely turned it around after the All-Star break and has been a main catalyst to our success over the past couple of months.
Also please recognize that this 1990 Baltimore team is on pace to be the best hitting team in IL history (based on AVG and OBP), and we've consistently and significantly increased our batting average over the last four years. It is not a fluke or coincidental, especially since I hired a new hitting coach two or three years ago. Does he hit .350 outside of Phillips Field? Probably not.
But even at .315+, 25+ HR, 100+ RBI, on any other IL team, he's still a top five candidate.
I have a couple of rookie of the year candidates as well although I'm not sure if they have enough at-bats to qualify. Either way, I'll post again in a couple of hours.
Don't let the Stout hoodwink, bamboozle or lead you astray.
