3-3 is not bad, but its also not good when you are fighting for your playoff lives. We couldn't grind out the wins in Virginia, which have now given them the edge down the stretch.
The Good
- One thing that cannot be denied is the ability of Akira Abe. Although devastated that he had to leave the team that drafted him in the first round of the BLB inaugural draft for the second time, he may have found a home in Baltimore. Abe had two very bad starts in June after joining the Baltimore roster, but since that time, Abe is 4-0, and undefeated in his last 10 starts. His stats do not do justice to the amount he's contributed to our success over the last two months.
- Coy McPherson continues his unexpected, high level of play in September. A .474 average so far through September, he's easily one of the key components to our 2nd half run. I just saw one key stat that makes this kid's speed look even more impressive. In August, McPherson hit five triples. The Import League leader in triples only has eleven, and he hits in a slightly larger home park than Coy. Who could have predicted that an injury to Campoveroe would prove to be so fortuitous?
The Bad
It looks like Romano Rodenas is a bit rusty after recovering from a tough rib injury. He's still the #1 guy, and we still need him to step up at the plate. Even if he can't make contact, would could really use his selectivity to add an extra base runner.
The Injured
-Nothing to report here. We still have Rule V draftee, Johnathan Vaughn on the DL. Other than that, we are healthy.
Next
-Pretty big week as we face our division rivals, Batavia and California. We are usually battling Batavia for the Porter's Co-Commissioner Cup, and a bad week here, will put us back in that position. Unfortunately for us, we have to face a hot Batavia team, and both Wilkerson and Guardamagni of California. Not fun at all. Let me just say it was fun while it lasted.
However before I pack up for the off-season, I would like to request a few things from my buddies in the Stout. I'd like for Washington sweep Wilmington, Wilmington sweep Virginia, and Morgantown beat anybody in the Stout, preferably Virginia.
