  • Upgrading to OOTP 11

Figured I'd get the ball rolling on the discussion of when/if we should upgrade to OOTP 11. My take on upgrading has always been that we should try to stay as current as possible because if you continue using an old version it becomes very difficult to replace owners who leave.

That being said, I think we've made the mistake in the past of being on the bleeding edge and have run into major issues because of it.

From what I've seen OOTP has been extremely stable with all versions since OOTP 9 was patched. OOTP 11 has been patched once and a second major patch is in the works but there has been no indication of when it will be released.

There are a ton of new features but the ones that jumped out at me as being relevant to the BLB are:

    For Players
    • A completely redesigned Manager Home screen, with a dynamic season timeline, that acts as a portal to your most critical management tasks
    • A Player Comparison screen, in which you can compare two players side-by-side
    • Recoded fielding engine, making defense more realistic while introducing new fielding stats like Zone Rating, Individual Fielding Efficiency, and Team Defense Efficiency.
    • More advanced statistics like wOBA (weighted on-base average), OPS+, ERA+ and FIP (fielding independent pitching)
    • A totally re-coded amateur draft with optional signing bonuses, player demands, a slotting system, post-draft contract & bonus negotiations, and compensation picks for unsigned picks (who will re-enter the draft a year later). Also, when feeder leagues are used, undrafted/unsigned high school players may go to college and continue playing!
    • Improved contract negotiations, including counter-offers from players.

    For Commish

    • The ability to mass-select players, making it easy to perform mass transactions like demoting several players simultaneously
    • Clone player feature (for running things like divisional tourney or WBC)

Probably should wait till the offseason. Is it possible to do it before Free agency?

I always found the best time to upgrade is the day right after the championship before the game rolls over to the off-season.

I always find the upgrades to be pretty minimal for yearly sports games (especially with text sims).

I'd rather wait till 12 but I'll never say no to a new game. Whatever the rest of the league wants will be cool with me.

I'd be for upgrading if that's the consensus.

I tried to see if it's still on sale for $20 but the site is blocked...can anyone else get to it?

              Sale appears to be over.

They have it listed at $41.70 now.

I have it too and I just can't get used to the interface. I've only been on it for a few weeks so maybe it will grow on me.

I'm sure it will be on sale again somewhere during All-Star weekend. I'll probably buy it then.

After fiddling around with 11, it's a heck of a lot more stable than 10. It's a lot faster and I think the improvements, especially to the draft, make it worth it. It has a lot of improvements too in the manager AI in my opinion as well.

Yeah, I'm sure it will be on sale around the All-Star break again- it always is.

Like previous upgrades, doing it after the end of the season makes sense before free agency gets going.

Are we planning to have slot money for amateur free agents?

I don't remember what the thoughts were on this? I'm guessing the answer is no because the draft means too much to small market teams. I don't care either way, just curious.
