My bullpen has posted a ridiculous 1.93 ERA so far. This will not last.

I will put a more detailed week review up later after class tonight, but despite getting swept by Philly, I am actually pretty happy with the performance. My young pitcher, Sull Rivera showed up against the Magician, despit the loss. Impressive.

Baltimore Bulldogs (10-8; 2nd)
0-3 @ California: L 2-3, L 0-1, L 2-10
3-0 vs. Dallas: W 10-3, W 15-4, W 4-0
As I said earlier, we were swept by the Freedom, but excluding Game 3, it was a competitive series. Unfortunately for Dallas, I think the guys were mad that we didn't pull at least one out in Philadelphia, and that restrained offense unloaded in Baltimore.
The Good
-Hopefully Curt Boyd found his swing. He is only hitting .197 for the year, but he did bat last week with at a .294 clip with 6 RBI. Boyd has to watch out because the young kid, Ivan Marquez has been eating up a quite a few AB and he is batting .320 with a respectable .414 OBP.
-There is a fountain of youth in Baltimore and Cesaro Campoveroe is filling his chalice. Last week he put up a .529/.636/.882 line with 3 doubles, 8 RBI, 4 walks, and just 1 K. So for the month of April, a man who was once considered the most dangerous hitter in the BLB, hit .393/.493/.625 with 2 home runs, 15 RBI and just 2 strikeouts. It would be just a small lie if I said I was expecting him to play this well.
-Sull Rivera went toe-to-toe with Joe "The Magician" Ponte throwing 6.1 innings with just one hit allowed. Yes, he walked six, but to be fair, Geoff Scott can't hurt you with his bat when he's already on base. We lost the game 0-1, but it was nice to see the kid throw with a bit of confidence.
The Bad
-This just in. We don't strike many people out. We have played two fewer games than most teams in the league, but we are well under the league average. I would like to see guys like JJG and Pena put up a few more K's. However, I shouldn't really be surprised, since I have moved the entire franchise away from the high risk, high reward days of old.
-Waylon Morgan got lit up by Freedom, and I think I may be in the market for another starter. I think Morgan has bullpen potentia,l and maybe even starter potential down the line, but right now, he just isn't ready.
The Minors
-If I truly had the time, I would start to micro manage my minors. But as my life stands right now, I don't and it shows. I need to start getting some wins in the minors so these players can hit their potentials a bit earlier.
However, I would like to mention that our 1989 Minor League Player of the Year, Shawn Catron is still doing well. Ratings mean nothing to him has he posts a 2.60 ERA, and looks like the only AAA-Admirals pitcher that gives a damn about winning. He may get a big league contract on heart alone.
What’s Next
We start the month of May with a home stand against the visiting Clowns and then head to In-and-Out Field to face the defending IL Champs.

Philly Freedom (17-3; 1st)
3-0 vs Baltimore: W: 3-2, W: 1-0, W: 10-2
3-0 vs Syracuse: W: 3-0, W: 7-6, W: 4-1,
This thing is on a roll. Obviously it can’t last at this level, but we’re enjoying it in the meantime. The offense wasn’t as explosive this week, but obviously did enough to get the job done. That’s 3 series sweeps so far this year. That has to be more than we had all of last year when we could never seem to get any sort of momentum going.
The Good
- Pat Gibson leads the team in RBI for the season with 22. He mostly hits in the 8th spot. He’ll never hit for a good average, but he’s got some pop and he gets on base at a nice clip. He’s an interesting kid.
- Geoff Scott rebounded from his poor showing last week to hit .435 | .536 | .478 and scored 7 runs.
- Raul Carbajal is giving us what we hoped for last year when we made the Aurillo deal. He showed signs of being able to do this throughout the second half of the ’89 season after absolutely drowning over the first half. For the week: .346 | .433 | .538 with 7 runs scored and 3 doubles. For the year: .329 | .409 | .463; leads the team with 20 runs scored and has a 10/7 BB/K rate.
- The pitching staff killed this week (despite some questionable lineup management involving 7 day lineups and dumbassedness). 1.50 ERA for the week. 6 W’s by 6 different guys. Only 1 pitcher who has pitched in Freedom uni this season has 0 wins, and he’s probably having one of the best starts out of all of our guys, Joe Ponte. He’s been a victim of circumstance so far in picking up 3 no decisions because he’s pitching well enough to have a couple of victories on his ledger.
The Bad
- I could leave this section blank since we didn’t lose a game and as a team we performed well, but O.T. had a down week in driving in only 1 RBI and batting .190. He’s a streaky hitter, capable of carrying the entire offense for a stretch and then going on vacation for a while. I only wish he would request time off before going on vacation.
What’s Next
One more game on the April calendar before we have to say goodbye to what has to be one of the best months in franchise history. I know for a fact it’s the best month we’ve had since I’ve been involved. So, 3 vs. Denver and then 3 @ natural Philly rival Dallas.Philly Freedom

It’s way too early to get too excited about our start. I’m happy to have it, but this is baseball and it’s a marathon.Philly Freedom
