    Figured it's worth a shot.

I picked up a minor league center fielder you released last year and converted him to relief pitcher. Dude's been really good at AA so far. With this late a pick, I may as well see if it can work the other way around.

I'll probably let Cervantes DH for a little while before I try teaching him a position.

For what it's worth, my scout has him as a decent batter (5/4/2/3/4), but not top 20.

Yeah, he was one of those guys I took a shot on.

In the ’88 draft his Pitching ratings were terrible, his OF defensive ratings were pretty good and his contact and eye ratings were good. I figured it was worth a shot too. He came in, his Off. ratings went to 2’s and 3’s and his defensive ratings fell a bit too. His pitching ratings have changed a little bit (he shows as a 5 3 3 guy now, at draft time he was like a 3 2 2) since being let go as well.

          Or maybe not....

          1. So with the draft winding down, who was your personal "pick" of the draft?
          2. What team do you think drafted the best?

For me I think my pick of the draft was 6th rounder, Don Morgan. I think he was a bit underrated at Florida State showing a good ability to get the bat on the ball.

For me, I really liked Indy's draft. They got a lot of good players including two Dougs that were high on our list, Doug Davidson and Doug McMahon.

              1. My favorite picks were my two 2nd rounders, Shawn Burton and Adrian Prado. Burton I actually almost selected with my first round pick and was shocked to still see him there in the 2nd. Prado was the #4 overall player, according to my scout, in the entire draft and even though the jury is still out on international players, it could be a huge steal.

              2. Virginia. I don't know who they took beyond their first pick, but that according to my scout, was the steal of the draft. First, he uses no lube on a trade with Z to move down. Then drafts the player my scout thinks is not only the highest rated based on potential but also #1 on his draft list.

              • I think my best pick is the one I just made. Little is known about Edwin Batarse, who hails from São Paulo, Brazil. However, the Sin City scouting department could not look past two items on his resume. One, his last name is made up of the words "bat" and "arse." And secondly, he rarely goes by Edwin and instead is known by his nickname, "Vapor Lock."

It appears he can field and run too. But really, who cares about that stuff.

What happens to undrafted High School players? Do any of them head to our College feeder league? or is their baseball careers over with?

IIRC, in OOTP X, they become insurance salesmen and give up their dreams of playing in the BLB. I *think* I remember reading somewhere that in OOTP 11, those guys advance up to college. That last part may have been something I dreamed though.

                    • The computer drafted an interesting guy for me who I actually had in my list but wasn't my top choice, but I'm happy it worked out the way it did... SS Tony Manzo. Plays every position except catcher to at least a 6 according to my scout. Great range - 8 in infield and 7 in OF. Decent speed. Not a bad pick this late.

That'd be an amazing feature to have. If it's not in 11, hopefully it will be in 12.

I had my eye on him as well. One of a few "super utility" guys that were available in this draft.

I may have misspoken earlier. The kids that don't get picked may not all become insurance salesmen and give up their dreams (OOTP X). I think they *might* actually become available FA's.

Tony Manzo was a famous (or infamous) substitute teacher in the Auburn School District when I was a youth.

He was in his 50-60s then. Ridiculous toupee. About 5'6. Instead of following the lesson plan, even if it was simply putting on a video, he would just talk and tell stories. A number of stories would be about the "girls he would have in his home." He never really, adopted them I guess, but would house "troubled teen" girls. I think he always felt like he was having a lasting impact but really, he just creeped us out and gave us a day in class where we knew we wouldn't have homework.

                              Weird, weird dude.

                              ---

As for the prospect in the BLB, yeah, I had him on my list too.

With the last pick I was all ready to draft LHP Tokuyuki Migita who has four workable pitches, an endurance of 7 and a work ethic of 8... and who swoops in to steal him? Philly!

                                Damnit!
