    • Drafted another international guy...

Tony Benitez, 17 year old from Nicaragua. My scout has him 8-8-8 on running skills and 8 on OF range. Maybe he can be a defensive replacement/pinch-runner.
      Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-

      • At this point, I'm mainly drafting for minor league depth.

        • Normally as the draft winds down I draft for players that can either become defensive studs, pinch-running specialists, or players who might have low potential but has high marks in work ethic and intelligence.

Same here. Occasionally, you come up with a 10th rounder like: Coy McPherson!!!

                • I was hoping Windy City's last pick, 1B Nate Butler, would last until midway through the next round. The guy can play anywhere on the field. Probably won't ever hit enough, but great potential as a defensive utility guy.

Not sure how I missed him but that's a great pick. Similar player to Joe Lujan, who I drafted last year in the 9th round.

                    Butler can even run, too!

                        • Cervantes is listed as a relief pitcher, but I'm going to try him at first base. If he wasn't left-handed, I'd play him at third, but you can't have everything I guess.

                            • I tried that with a couple of guys late in the '88 draft, taking pitchers who showed offensive/defensive ability based on ratings. Those ratings quickly went away once they were assigned to my A ball team.

I'm going to put 5th round pick, Koji Omura at 3rd base. My scout has him as a top 20 batter and with that work ethic and intelligence, he may become something decent.
