Originally posted by Clay View PostAgreed. Sadly, I really like the drafts so far of all the teams I hate (Wilmington, Washington, California, etc.)
1) You don't think much of our draft
2) We've been relegated to "etc." status in Virginia.
If it's the latter, that's quite a downgrade.Philly Freedom

I was hoping Jared Rich would fall to me except Pawtucket snagged him.
He doesn't appear to have the best ratings according to my scout but he has put up some impressive power numbers in College.Toronto Canadians - 2004-

Originally posted by Skerik View PostIt's easy to find great bullpen arms if you're willing to spend draft picks on them within the first three rounds, as drafts are usually stacked with good bullpen arms compared to other positions.
Compare that with 15 SP's picked before that and I would say the bullpen was a bit weaker this year.

Originally posted by Skerik View PostOr, everyone's drafting mediocre starters hoping they pan out instead of good relievers because good starters are more valuable positionally than good relievers, who are able to be signed or traded for pretty much all the time.
Obviously, Matt choses to go a bird in a hand, because mediocre starters come a dime a dozen too.

Took SP Norm Sutton from Clemson. He is the definition of an old-school lefty, being a control artist who doesn't throw exceptionally hard (works in the high 80s mainly). He walked only 20 batters in roughly 200 innings pitched. It's no secret I like stockpiling pitchers who pound the strike zone and throw strikes.
I haven't drafted a starting pitcher this high since I drafted Jerry Ferrell in the 2nd round a few years back. He certainly doesn't have the upside of a frontline pitcher but he can hopefully develop into a back of the rotation workhorse eventually. There's no rush since I have my rotation locked up for the next few years.Last edited by Spectre; 06-19-2010, 05:21 PM.

Drafted the 5'7 pitcher out of Florida State - Clarence Allison.
Allison has struggled in his final year at FSU but my scout thinks he's a 4-5-6. It's a bit of a gamble as its projected he'll just become another bullpen arm but hopefully he'll develop a third pitch and become a back end of the rotation guy.
You'd think at 5'7 you'd have a good work ethic but Clarence Allison tops out at a 2 in that department. Hopefully our coaches down in Johnson City will straighten him out when he reports to our single A affiliate.Toronto Canadians - 2004-
