Took OF Gene Dixon out of Clemson. The guy has been a hitting machine in college, with a career .376 BA in three years in college. The California native is the anchor of the Tigers offense. It's no secret that my team is getting old in the outfield and Dixon was a no-brainer. He's got good plate discipline and can really fly on the basepaths.

We also really liked Escamilla but he went off the board right before us, making my choice of Dixon a bit easier.

Doesn't have the same pop as the Tiger selected before him but Madocks sure knows how to get on base. Typical lead-off guy that has good speed and defense. Madocks will continue to play CF at the next level.

Also, do the international guys count towards the international abilities of our scouts and the money we put towards that segment of the scouting budget? Hmm....

I like the Gene Crews pick by Sin City. He was the #1 player left on my board. I was hoping to get an OF prospect with my 1st round pick but most of the guys I liked are gone now. This has been a very hitter heavy 1st round in comparison to past drafts. I think the SP prospects with only 2 pitches are scaring people away.

Sin City takes CF Gene Crews of FSU. We had Dixon and Madocks ranked higher on our draft board, but Crews is a nice consolation prize. He's a bit of a free swinger for our tastes, but his power potential and fielding ability at multiple OF positions have us feeling good about taking him 14th overall.

Think of this type of scout as more of a "Moneyball" scout. The director that favors tools will base the players' potential ratings on the maximum peak the player could achieve.
