I for one appreciate that fact immensely. Well done!

Philly has the 17th pick in this year's draft too. Can lightning strike twice?

Not with you behind the controls.

        ---

I remember Scott vividly on draft day. I, fortunately or unfortunately, was coming off the '83 title season and drafted 24th overall. I took MR Chad Williams. After a lightouts rookie campaign in '86, 2.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 85 IP, 9-2, 2 saves, 72 Ks, I think he actually got some ROY votes, he progressively got worse and worse. Retired in '90.

Scouts were indeed on when you drafted Woodbury and he was pretty obviously the best player in the draft by a wide margin.

I agree with Skerik on this one. He was the no brainer overall #1. However we've had those bomb before anyway.

I also deserve credit for signing him to a contract cheaper than Henry Stafford's.

I think we discussed it during the '84 draft how we thought it was the worst draft to date in the BLB. I had 4 picks in that first round. It pains me to say that Geoff Scott wasn't even on my radar.

I remember I was pretty down on your draft. My scout didn't think any of the four had BLB potential. But, 2/4 isn't bad, especially considering Hector Lopez is going to be the first BLB'er to hit 50 HRs.

If Don McGuire stays healthy, he'll easily be the first.

                          RBI: 1349 vs. 1040
                          HR: 348 vs. 222

Yes, Gremades will end up with the better average and OPS, plus his numbers the past few years have been better than Keppel's. But, from 78-84, Keppell was a beast. Dude hit .369 one year!
Oh, I still think Keppel is probably the first true LEGEND (batters at least), but I think when all is said and done "Shitburger" tightens the gap. Especially if he stays healthy and in Virginia where he should rake in our park.

You guys are right. So right that we shouldn't bother to include Hector Carbajal in the conversation, even as an afterthought, who led the league with 44 HRs in 89 (1 per 14.27 ABs; McGuire 1/14.71).

How quickly people forget Pete Kellum. Career .926 OPS compared to Keppel's .932.

Kellum also came into the BLB at age 35 and hit .379 with 39 HR as a "rookie" in 1978, following that season up by hitting .405 in an injury-shortened 86 games in 1979. He also had good speed, stealing 37 bases from age 35-37 and only being caught 10 times.

Kellum would have set BLB records that we may never see broken if given the chance to play during his athletic prime.
